Another advantage to adding the drop shadow in PS is that you save tons of render time in FCP! Whenever possible, always add the drop shadow before you bring your graphics into FCP!

If you use the control tab to set your position, you won’t have this problem. You won’t need to keep track of whether you’re on a whole, even integer or not. The same goes for any of FCP’s generators that let you change position in the control tab. When you set the position in the motion tab, you’re positioning the entire frame that the title is in, if you use the control tab, you’re only positioning the title in the frame.

If you have Motion or After Effects, you’d be better off using either one to make your travel matte. If you don’t have either of those (or even if you do), you might want to take a look at buying Silhouette Roto.

The 1st choice, “One pass”, is CBR, as opposed to the “One pass VBR” options.

I see nothing on any of those manufacturer’s websites saying that any of those cards will provide any acceleration for DV. The Kona does not promise any realtime at all. The other 2 only say that they’re compatible with RT Extreme. I don’t know what that means, really, so you might want to call or email them & ask for more specifics. Or speak to a reliable reseller that handles all 3 cards & ask them.
In general, though, an FCP 4x or 5x system’s RT performance is determined more by CPU & hard drive speed than anything else.

In the batch window, select your file, then apply the mpeg2 preset from the pulldown menu that most closely describes what you want. Now select that preset in the batch window. It will open in the inspector window (you may have to open the inspector window from the Window menu). Click the quality tab, chooseb“1 Pass”, plug a number of 7Mbps or less into the average bit rate window, then set the motion estimation to “Best”. Good luck & happy hunting!

You don’t need to use 2 pass unless you’re making a DVD with more than about 90 minutes worth of material. So unless you’re making a disk with 181 of those 30 sec. spots, you might be better off using CBR in Compressor. My own recent experience is that CBR works well & looks good if you can keep the bit rate above 6 Mbps.
