I was able to assemble a decent looking comp shot using the chroma keyer; however, for 11 frames, the actor’s hand leaves the green screen area. In the shot, his hand entirely disappears. I can use the crop function to extend the green screen, except that the greenscreen ends! I thought the solution would be to create a custom matte that I can trace around the actor’s hand. How can I achieve this in FCP? I don’t find the 8 pt garbage mattes to be particularly helpful. . .is there something akin to Avid’s animatte in FCP?

If you have Motion or After Effects, you’d be better off using either one to make your travel matte. If you don’t have either of those (or even if you do), you might want to take a look at buying Silhouette Roto.
