  • Help – Green noise around photoshop elements with Alpha channel

    Hey there

I’ve got a problem with green noise around the edges of some photoshop elemets that have alpha channels with video showing through them. basically it looks fine before render but then has an ugly green noise around some of the edges once rendered…particularly bad if i use a drop shadow from the motion tab to the elements.

any ideas on what i can do to eliminate the green?

    thanks

Try re-saving your PS document, then either import it back in and re-edit it in your timeline, or try to reconnect media. Bright pink and/or green can be a possible sign of media corruption.

It might not be a bad idea to dump your render files, if it wouldn’t be a huge inconvenience to re-render.

Try that. Post back if it doesn’t help!

It seems that after a process of elimination and changing the PS files alpha channels to white (that tip thanks to Kevin Monahans book!) the corruption seems to occur only when i add the fcp drop shadow from the clips motion tab.

when i remove the drop shadow the elements render correctly…i am going to try and get our graphic designer to add the drop shadow in PS and reimport the file so i dont have to use the FCP dropshadow.

hopefully this will solve the issue for this particular project but i would like to know why FCP’s drop shadow would cause this corruption

Another advantage to adding the drop shadow in PS is that you save tons of render time in FCP! Whenever possible, always add the drop shadow before you bring your graphics into FCP!

Just curious, but what resolution/codec are you working in?

That’s what I thought. 10 bit has inherent flaws with stuff like drop shadows added inside FCP.

I’d report this to the final cut pro feedback as this problem bites a lot of people. The 10-bit codec needs to be updated.

What are your render settings set at, “High Precision YUV”? If you switch them to 8 bit the problem should go away, but it might make your graphics look a little more banded but it’s better than looking a little green though.

    thanks Jeremy,

I’m begining to hear from a few others about the bugginess of the 10bit codec. wish i’d known before i started this project. should i just use the send feedback option in the file menu?
