  • “Red renders obsolescence obsolete”

Yeesh!! Who thinks these things up? That may be the worst marketing slogan I’ve heard so far this year. (Maybe this century!)

Having gotten that off my chest, it looks interesting. No, it looks fantastic! Resolutions from 720-4K, frame rates up to 120fps. Raw output, solid state & disk based recording. Light weight. A standard, widely used lens mount.

But do I really want to be taunted by yet another piece of digital cinema vaporware (Kinetta, Arri, etc)? What I want to know is, when is it shipping?

Something more powerful than iCal? Try doing a search on freshmeat.net

I’m not sure, but I think I remember there being something like this in the 55mm set from Digital Film Tree.

Motion (and the rest of FCS) on Intel isn’t supported under Rosetta, only in the universal binary. So the obvious workaround is the cross-grade.

  • I think that’s somewhere in your sequence settings. To change an existing sequence, select the timeline & press command-zero. To change sequences you may create in the future, look in the User Preferences under the Final Cut Pro menu. Changing the settings in User Prefs will not change settings on existing timelines.

  • Your still will never be any better than the default, uncompressed still formats that FCP can export: .tif, .tga, .pct or .png. Sorry, but it’s video. You should export the still from the highest resolution timeline that you have, I’d export it as a .tif to be more compatible, deinterlace it in Photoshop, then let the paper’s graphics people do whatever they need to with it. The odds are that they’re pretty good at upresing stills.

I think this is maybe the 3rd time this has come up in the last month or 2. The simple answer is that FCP doesn’t work that way. In order to do what you want, your online files would have to:
    1) have the same name as your offline files
    2) have the same reel number as your offline
    3) be the same length as your offline

If it were me, I’d simply use the media manager & re capture at your online resolution.

[chris] “”We’re not offshoring anchors yet, but anything behind the camera should no longer be done onshore.” “

It’s kind of hard to have a journalist in, say, Bangalore, Mumbai, or Xian, for that matter, shoot news footage in, say, Chicago or New York or even LA (which is at least on the West coast!).
