I would hate to know what you mean by “all the time.” For me 3 or 4 times a month is all the time, and unacceptable. I regularly deal with HD and even 2k for film. If your system is stable, it will not crash.

A median filter is a kind of blur. It looks for “median” values between pixels, and will smooth things out. If you have Shake or Nuke, you can use keys & roto mattes to isolate various areas to apply different levels of blur & median filters.

Grain & noise reduction plugins are designed to deal with moving grain, not the fixed stippling of the ground glass. You may try median filters, but expect this shot to require a lot of work for a marginal benefit.

Any large photo store will carry rolls of seamless paper in their lighting or studio photography departments.
For mail order, look at B&H, The Set Shop or Calumet.

There are some excellent plugins for Motion. Anything sold through the Noise Industries website, including their own most excellent collection, Boris, Zaxwerks and Sapphire will all work with Motion.

Depending on the gadget, a rental house may already have one. If so, rent it for the job. Or another shop may have one, if so, farm it out. If not, well, that’s when we need to be upfront with clients.

5.1 is the earliest version for Intel Macs. It will be nearly impossible to find. 7.x is the current version.
