That doesn’t leave them any options, does it? $100 is nothing over the cost of any production. If it’s they think it’s important to the look of the show, that’s probably the cheapest good option they have.

All standard def NTSC video is 29.97 interlaced. That’s not some arbitrary thing that FCP does, that’s a broadcast standard mandated by the US government. 24P & 30P are recorded to tape inside of an interlaced stream.

Do you mean that it was shot in anamorphic widescreen, or letterboxed?
And you want it to be 4X3? Either way, you must blow up the picture so that only the center portion shows. Yes, you will be losing resolution. Yes you will be cropping out part of the frame, but for some shots you can recompose by panning it to the left or right.

For keying inside of FCP, I’ll go along with Winston and recommend Conduit. But I really prefer using Keylight inside of Shake. The flexibility you get inside of Shake makes a huge difference. And Keylight and Primatte are both included with Shake. There are times when you will need to use both on a single key.

AJA has provided you with DV-50 settings. Stick with those presets & you’ll be fine. For output to beta, keep your timeline at DV50, and set your output through the Io to the appropriate NTSC 525 Betacam setting.

It looks like a very flexible and powerful tool, once you go beyond the basic pre-sets. The drag & drop simplicity will make it attractive to many people- expect to see many badly applied pre-canned looks on low budget fare in the near future.
Some things this tutorial didn’t cover though. Can you see the output live on your video monitor? Do all the masks have to be circular? Can they be elliptical or rectangular? Can I select by a range of chroma or luma? How do I keyframe the position, size & feather of masks?

And the deck is rolling when you see these messages? You need to manually hit Play on the deck if you use Capture Now.

Personally, I run a complete backup of my system drive before I do any upgrades, either Mac OS or any major apps. That way, you can always go back to your last known working status without having to jump through hoops.

Depends on your needs & budget. I personally lean towards AJA. Their tech support is the best I’ve ever had to use. And their products are rock solid.

I just did a quick check. Micronet & FW Depot are both selling RAID 5 over FW 800 solutions. There may be others, as well.
