we’re using a DVCpro HD 1200A deck with FCP 6.01

we have device control through the log and capture window. I get visual playback on the external monitor out of AJA Kona3 but nothing in the preview window. it says preview disabled.

when I hit capture now I get the following error message:
“this operation cannot be completed as there is no video”

in the capture window it says” waiting for time code, device must be in vtr mode when device is enabled.”

    please help!!
    thanks!

Is the deck in “remote control” mode?

Yes it’s in Remote mode and I have control of the deck through final cut pro. I can see video on my monitor being fed by AJA Kona 3. I just can’t see anything in the log and capture window (they usually play simultaneously)… Instead the log and capture window says “waiting for timecode” and then after a few seconds an error message appears saying “This operation could not be completed as there is no video”.

    There is video though??

The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.

    Next:
THE FOLLOWING COMES FROM THE KEN STONE WEBSITE:
“Over 5,000 years ago Confucius wrote: ‘If you are toiling away, you have changed nothing and FCP heads South on you, [starts behaving in strange ways] then it is time to trash your FCP Preferences.’ ”

Click the following link for instructions.

    https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/trashing_fcp_prefs.html

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).
There are versions for FCP (Pro) & FCE (Express) and a new one for FCP 5.

Download these free Apple Scripts at

    https://fcprescue.andersholck.com/
    or
    https://pistolerapost2.com/fcprescue/

This is one FCP tip that has helped in solving hundreds of “odd” problems.

[Michael Pierre] “when I hit capture now I get the following error message:
“this operation cannot be completed as there is no video”

in the capture window it says” waiting for time code, device must be in vtr mode when device is enabled.””

And the deck is rolling when you see these messages? You need to manually hit Play on the deck if you use Capture Now.

[Arniepix] “You need to manually hit Play on the deck if you use Capture Now.”

    Not necessarily the case.

“Capture Now” will immediately roll the tape and start capture.

Of course, if you have the FCP deck control set to “non-controllable device” you must manually hit play.

I figured it out. The deck was set internally to out put 1080 23.98 PsF and not 720p 59.94.
So, although I was able to see the picture via SDI (out of the deck) I final cut pro was looking for a 720p 59.94 signal.

Once I reset the deck everything was fine.

By the way, the menu in the Panasonic 1200A deck wins the award for the most counter intuitive unnecessarily complicated electronic device in the history of electronic devices.

In wikipedia there should be a picture of the 1200A deck under ” unintuitive “.

Hello, know this is an old post but was wondering if you could tell me where in FCP7 you can change these video settings?
