October 15, 2007 at 3:13 pmDo you mean that it was shot in anamorphic widescreen, or letterboxed?
And you want it to be 4X3? Either way, you must blow up the picture so that only the center portion shows. Yes, you will be losing resolution. Yes you will be cropping out part of the frame, but for some shots you can recompose by panning it to the left or right.

October 16, 2007 at 7:32 amIf you have FCP 6 you can drop your widescreen footage into a full screen timeline. You will be prompted to choose whether or not you want the timline to now conform to your 16:9 footage or remain as a 4:3 sequence. Choose to leave the timeline as 4:3 and your widescreen footage will become “center-punched”, leaving you with a full screen version. No other adjustments will be necessary.
