Honestly, If you don’t already own an Io, I’d go with the HD10AVA instead. This gives you the option to upconvert the beta to 720 or 1080 when you need to. Also, the HD10AVA will allow you to capture HD analog component from HDV cameras & decks. An Io LA will not give you these options. With the HD10AVA, your RS-422 control would be via the Kona.
If you don’t need to use uncompressed HD, consider an Io HD instead of a Kona. It already has the analog component inputs, and will do up- & cross-conversions to either 720 or 1080. It still gives you the option for uncompressed SD. In this scenario, your deck control is via an RS-422 port on the Io.

If you don’t need to upconvert anything, then the Io LA will be all you need to add to the Kona.
If you want to use the Kona to upconvert the standard def material, then it needs to come in over the SDI on the Kona. You could use a full size Io as an A to D converter for this. Or you can get an AJA D10AD or HD10AVA that will convert component, S-VHS and composite to SDI.
Look them up here: https://www.aja.com/html/products_converters_mc.html
It might also be possible to use your Multibridge as a converter. And ADS now has a mini converter for this, as well: https://www.adstech.com/pyroav_com/products/PVC-930/products_details.asp

You’re hoping to move to HD?
Some day in the very near future, someone is going to ask you to shoot & deliver in HD. The time to prepare yourself is before they ask.In many ways, HD has become cheap. Hard drives are bigger and cheaper than ever before. HD monitors start under $1k. 1/3 inch cameras for under $10K give decent picture, and there will soon be 1/2 inch cameras below $10k.
In my mind the only reason not to upgrade to HD now is because you haven’t spec’d & priced it out yet. And that’s no excuse.

I would be leery about using FCP 5.x on Leopard. There’s a lot of variables involved, including the version of Quicktime. If you want to test it, make sure you clone your hard drive first.

Also in the timeline window. In the viewer, or canvas, I think you have to hit the tab key 2X (can’t confirm, as I’m on Linux right now).

By different makers? I wouldn’t expect the gerbils in one to play well with the hamsters in the other. I can’t help but wonder if that’s contributing to your problem.
Your monitor set up has more square footage than a lot of NYC apartments. You must have some large desk to put them on.
