image stabilization
Posted by Brigitta Boccoli on December 1, 2007 at 4:33 amHey guys,
a question.
I have a couple of shoots from helicopters… we did not use any steady-cam or an external stabilization system.
Now the shooting is so so, vibrations here and there and I was trying to fix it.
I have been playing with final cut tools to find a workaround.
I enlarged the clip size of a 3% (103) and kept the subject in the center using X and Y, basically mooving back the image every time it jumped away.Any better tool you can suggest for image stabilization?
Thanks!

December 1, 2007 at 6:36 amShake is NOT a color correction tool. It is a COMPOSITING tool, with other handy features. And yes, FCP 6 DOES (not “douse” zrb…stop that) include that. I just offered Shake in case you didn’t want to upgrade….just another option that DOES image stabilization.
(ribbin’ ya zrb…)

December 1, 2007 at 7:44 amIf you don’t know Shake yet, it’s much easier to upgrade to FCS 2. You’ll get SmoothCam in FCP (and it works great!) plus Color, an excellent CC tool.

Uli

Why the heck would it pour water on the image stabilization?

December 1, 2007 at 9:26 amAs somebody posted here just the FC Smoothcam makes worth the upgrade to FCS2.
The results are amazing.
But few tips to use it:
Don’t use it directly over your master clips, because will analysed the whole movie.
Edit your shoots in a sequence trying to clean all the images with too much movement.
After you can use the media manager to export all the shoots to a new projet. Use the Smoothcam in this second project. Only this footage will be analysed.

December 1, 2007 at 11:17 amIf you can’t go to FCS2 (and it is worth it) then an alternative that works well is iStabilize. A stand-alone app that is simple and effective… not connected, just a happy user. I’ve corrected heli shots with it and it works well. Learning curve isn’t too bad either…
50 of your ‘merkin dollars I believe.
