October 10, 2008 at 4:42 am in reply to: How can I capture video right from my XD CAM into FCP?I suspect that the camera’s manual would have this information. You will need to set the output of the camera, and you may need to set some other things regarding frame size and bandwidth as well.

[gary adcock] “did you make sure to update the firmware on the card that comes with the new Kona Driver?”
[Christian Vassallo] “Yeah, when i installed it i went to the website and downloaded the most up-to-date drivers as of last week.”
Firmware and drivers are different things. The firmware updates the Kona card itself, the drivers tell your Mac how to talk to the Kona.

[jason lelchuk] “Naked show will be edited in FCP and then needs to be exported to a format that is accepted by AVID for graphical treatment in another shop. “
Which version of Avid? If it’s not one of the latest versions it probably won’t be able to read the XDCam codecs.
[jason lelchuk] “I plan to export show to MXF and then drop the file on a disk using PMW-U1”
FCP does not export MXF. It prefers to export Quicktime, it can export AVI, but MXF is not an option directly from FCP.
[jason lelchuk] ” Any format / codec issues I should be thinking about? “
You need to pick up your telephone and speak to someone at the Avid house that’s doing the finishing work. They know exacly what they can work with and what they cannot.

I’d also check TurboSquid. You can also check RevoStock and iStockPhoto, but be prepared to spend a long time searching. If you’re budget is bigger, look at sites like ArtBeats, Corbis or Thought Equity Motion.

[Jonathan Capra] “But in Motion do I just have to save different copies of the project and render each separately?”
How is that really different from what you do in FCP or AE?
FCP allows you to have many sequences in one project file. AE allows you to have many compositions in one project file.
Motion, for better or worse, is a single composition per project, but you can duplicate your project files in the finder & modify them, or you can modify them and then use “Save As” to create variations. Either way, you’re doing the same thing that you would do with duplicate timelines or compositions in FCP or AE.
Also, you may want to take a look at AutoMotion from Digital Heaven: https://www.digital-heaven.co.uk/automotion/

[Maria Downing] “I need to change the speed on some of the frames and I find that when I do that, the alpha channel in only those frames disappears”
Why would you do that? Your working with still pictures. If you need one to be longer, you shold just lengthen or shorten them using the trim tools.

[David Roth Weiss] “You’re most like dropping frames because:
a) your hard drive is too full
b) you need to do a “Mixdown” in the Sequence >> Render Only drop down menu
c) “Full” is not checked in Sequence >> Render All before rendering.”Or d) your hard drives are too slow for the material that you’re using- FW400 for uncompressed, for example.

That means your real out point is 1 second after the one that you’ve logged. Are you sure that there’s continous timecode for that whole extra second?
