Assuming that you’re not working on pieces for your evening news hour or an “all news” channel, then there’s nothing wrong with what you’re doing. (OT- Why do they call them news channels, when all they offer is commentary?)

If you’re a journalist, even some slight alterations can be a no-no, but if you’re working on entertainment, infotainment, industrials, weddings or any other non-news type of projects, then you should do what is best to convey the story.

BTW, the standards for journalism used to be much softer than they are now (and they were quite tougher in the 80’s & 90’s). At least through the 1950’s it was not necessarily considered wrong to pose or alter pictures. Life photographer W. Eugene Smith often sandwiched negatives in his darkroom to create composite photos that he said told the “truth” of the story, even if they were fabricated. That would get a photographer fired today. The photo of Albert Schweitzer on the top of Smith’s wikipedia page is an example of this compositing, btw: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W._Eugene_Smith

You should also find out if they captured across these timecode breaks. If they did, you may be really, really hosed. And I mean really hosed, because the timecode in FCP may no longer match the tape (or even seem to bear any obvious relation) after the break.

[Emmet Reddy] “the camera man has suggested shooting slow mo at 16fps”

    Find a new camera man.

Shooting at 16fps and playing back at 24 (or 30) fps will speed up your shot, not slow it down.

You need to shoot at a higher frame rate than you play back to create slow-mo.

  • If you have AE, Combustion, Motion or Shake, I’d use one of those to do this.

If you have Shake, you could do this with a timeX node. One of the options there is to plug in a simple formula that would only use every N’th frame. Say every 30th or 120th frame, if you so choose.

[George Parker] ” My analog component on the AJA is set to Component (RGB).”

What happens when you set that to YUV?

[Timmy Schmidt] “How do I create an effective brand strategy for a record label?”

Record labels went out with the 20th century. They just haven’t figured out what their declining sales mean, yet.

[Steve Wargo] “My feeling is: Typo or not, misspelled is misspelled.”

I agree. If it’s not spelled correctly, it’s misspelled. The nuance of why it’s misspelled- ignorance or operator error- doesn’t change that.

And then there’s the additional error of the wrong word being spelled correctly, but still not being correct. Two instead of too. It’s instead of its. Hear instead of here.

I am the person that they invented the spell checker for. I someone tells me that something is misspelled, I thank them. Even if it’s a typo.

Whether it’s spelled wrong because it’s “misspelled” or because it’s a “typo”, it’s still spelled wrong. IOW, either way it’s misspelled.

The FBI has a nice boilerplate notice that you can use:

    https://www.fbi.gov/ipr/

“Warning: The unauthorized reproduction or distribution of this copyrighted work is illegal. Criminal copyright infringement, including infringement without monetary gain, is investigated by the FBI and is punishable by up to 5 years in federal prison and a fine of $250,000.”
