Hi. I had this problem too. Then I realized that on Win 7 64 I had change the compatibility mode of AFX CS3 to Windows XP SP3 mode because this made the Vector Paint effect work properly.

So…I just went in and turned off compatibility mode. Now drag and drop works again.

    Hi and thanks a lot.

I’m not a pro at all, but if I get the geist of what you folks are saying, increasing the song speed by about 50%, shooting the vid, then reducing video speed by half seems to be about the simpliest idea?? Right?

When you say “overcranked” what does that mean? Does that mean a higher shutter speed? I don’t have a really fantastic camera, just a sony fx1, which is pretty cool and better than nothing.

I’ll just be shooting a one man band guy, but it’s an excellent song, I’d love this guy’s career to sky rocket!!

    thanks

  • Does this kind of thing happen in the CS4 version. I’m on CS3.

I substituted the precompositioned layer for just a normal layer and the shadow is still going through. So that doesn’t seem to be the issue.

Ok…I will study this more and come back with more intelligent questions/answers.

I wasn’t referring to my previous composition. I just experimented with a new, large compositions of simply after effects 3d layers (ctrl-shift y) and I noticed the same phenomena, without any 2d layers whatsoever. It’s just the simple fact I’ve known for a long time, the render order dictates often what layers will be visible and not. And certain layer will pop out frequently from various angles.

When I originally asked, the only thing I was told was 3d layers will always appear in their assigned position. But that wasn’t exactly true.

I was just playing around with some other 3d compositions. Nothing but simple colored layers! Exact same problems! Layers will appear in front of layers depending on order in the timeline. It’s a flawed 3d program.

Thanks for the advice. It seems on either side of the lux layer the anomaly occurs. I moved the 2d text layer in between my 3d layers and the sun just as a test, but it didn’t create any problem with my sun layer. Maybe it’s just the lux layer.

I’ll read up on those other articles listed above. Collapsed transformations of precomposed layers have this issue too? It’s still rather a frustrating thing in my opinion. But I’ll investigate further.

Thanks. I might just be me too and or the confusion might lay in precomposed layers. When I notice again I will try and capture it.
