As I said, I am mostly an After Effects user and all I want to do is make my showreel. To completely dedicate one machine for one day’s editing because of one badly written piece of software is completely unfeasible. Furthermore, it should be completely unnecessary.
I use a Mac so I am not sure about all the files that you are referring to, however doing a complete reinstall of CS4 seems ridiculous just because Media Encoder doesn’t work in combination with Premiere. That is the part that is driving me mad, Premiere works fine and ME works fine on its own, however the two together are a constipated mess.

Thanks Vince, I have just run the updater. It found something for Encoder but it has made no difference.
The status column says ‘waiting’ but I can see from the tiny window at the bottom of the panel that it is trying to load a PPro project that just doesn’t exist. It is definitely not the same file as is listed under the ‘source name’ column in the main window.
This seems crazy, I have done nothing different from the way I used to use CS3. I can’t drag a PPro project into the Encoder, is that possible? Do I have any other options?

Thanks guys, trying out those suggestions…
Also, the client seems to be considering springing for the plug-in!

I’m a one-man operation too, using AE and Photoshop with some Cinema4D. I don’t quite know what you mean by style frames, but if a piece is motion graphics I dive straight into AE. Very rarely do I start in PS, there is very little I can do there that isn’t possible in AE. In fact sometimes AE offers more flexibility even for static projects due to the parametric effects. Another thing I consider is that if I do start designing something in PS I don’t want to be in a position where I then find it difficult to reproduce that look in AE, as I am doing the whole design job myself, why make it difficult?

Apply the tints to Adjustment layers within the pre-comp. Sorry, no idea why that’s happening.

This is the latest effort, a lot better thanks to you guys but could be better. The sides are shape layers (btw I’m enjoying using shape layers, so neat and tidy) but if I make them one pixel larger for the overlap the edges become very visible. If I make them smaller the gaps are visible. Basically I’ve thrown a lot of effects on to it to try and hide the imperfections. Also I added a dark stroke to the edge of the red.
Anyway, not perfect, but it’s a rush job and unless they complain I won’t go to Cinema 4D. It is annoying though that even with everything numerically perfect AE still can’t quite handle this.
Thanks again.

January 26, 2009 at 3:23 pm in reply to: is there a way to make particles appear but without velocity/motion?Unbelievable. I kind of cracked the look I wanted about 30 secs after I posted, but without solving the question I posed. I wanted to fill a screen with custom particles and I completely forget that I could set the emitter type to ‘Box’ and then set the box dimensions to my comp size. Screen fills with custom particles. Designer hangs head in shame.

Thanks Steve, intriguing idea, I’ll investigate. Never thought of that approach.
