I think Pete Warden also has a plugin for this.

Try SHIFT-(and the key to the left of Z)

  • Look in your Animation Presets (Text>Animate In>Typewriter) and you’ll find exactly what you need. Choose a good font and you’re done. There are a number of ways of getting the shake, from simple keyframes to plug-ins, search the COW.

I’ve just had to do this exact task (well almost exactly, there was 3D but only very simple), Mylenium is obviously correct; there is no way to avoid manual tweaking. However, take heart because the whole job of remaking was easier than I had imagined.

I duplicated every comp and added ‘HD’ to the new ones. I then started with the top/render comp and changed it to 1920×1080 (add your correct frame rate), then using the alt-replace trick I started switching all the nested SD stuff with my HD comps. Every time I did that I made sure to open the new HD comp and change the settings to 1920×1080. I then did the same with the solids I came across. Finally I went through and tweaked settings for fonts and effects.

Have a coffee, be methodical and I hope it works out.

If I understand you correctly, I think you have many options; Bezier Warp, CC Power Pin, Corner Pin, Mesh Warp, Reshape, Transform, Warp etc. I’m sure there are more too.

  • Thanks, but unfortunately things are a but more complicated.

We signed a contract on providing Standard Def opening titles and that is what I did. However, at the point of almost signing off the project they have ‘reconsidered’ and now want HD. Fine, we’ve re-negotiated and they are paying but I am trying to keep the rebuild time to a minimum. Also, some of the material in the titles is undercover filming and not HD, this shouldn’t be a big problem as it’s heavily treated aand scaled down.

So, the questions remain: Can I go outside AE’s presets and just change the render comp’s frame rate to 25fps? Is this ok for PAL flavoured HD? The test render I did a while back was a Targa sequence at 25fps but that was SD.

  • ps. they are delivering 1080/50i to the broadcaster.
