You can either cut out frames from your video using a blade or razor tool or add a black solid on the video layer above that is a frame or two long where you want it to stutter.

Look up Film Burns. You can find them on any stock site pretty cheep. Put them on the video layer above your clip and set its transfer mode to screen.

January 24, 2012 at 7:25 pm in reply to: Is there something like optical flares but free?Another possibility is looking on stock footage websites of flares. You may be able to buy a solid blue one like in that video…. even a still…. and just wiggle the opacity. So… possibly a $10 flare instead of a $130 plug-in.

May 16, 2011 at 6:38 pm in reply to: A rant about hollywood surround volume dynamics…I agree on the apartment thing. I feel I listen to stuff reasonably low but I go out in the hallway and I feel like the whole floor can hear what we’re watching! Guess im lucky I havn’t got the “knock” from the neighbors yet. Best of luck to you with your neighbors.

May 16, 2011 at 5:39 pm in reply to: A rant about hollywood surround volume dynamics…I got to put in my word here. First, Normalizing would not help you. Audio normalization is “the process of increasing (or decreasing) the amplitude of an entire audio signal so that the resulting peak amplitude matches a desired target”. What you want is compression. Brining the loudest points down and the quieter points up. Also, what you are asking for is exactly whats wrong with the music industry these days. There is no more dynamic range and everything just becomes a loudness war. Appreciate dynamic range. It really helps tell the story.

January 14, 2011 at 2:51 pm in reply to: Realtime and Slowmotion in the same shot. How do you do that technique? The Kid Cudi video is pretty simple. It was shot twice. Once is normal speed with him singing… and a second time for all the extras where they can speed them up. The shots are all lock down so all they did was put a little junk matte around him. You can see a edit of this at 3:49 where he passes the other people. Looks to me like that was an easy fast way of doing it. Nothing passes in front of him so masking it is simple.

December 3, 2010 at 7:25 pm in reply to: Opinoins on this short I did for Modern Day Advertising.I felt the camera was too tight on a lot of the words. I was trying to follow the words which my eyes were not able to keep up with a lot of it… and i was focusing on that so much that i was not able to even absorb the VO. I would back off a bit with the camera and try to keep more attention on the message. Cool moves…. but the message is the most important thing.
