It doesn’t just scale pictures and GFX, It scales video too. I find it very useful because we are increasingly living in a world of mixed mediums…. multicam shoots often use different cameras. Iphone footage is often incorporated for an experimental look.
Typically on a feature, the DIT should standaradise all the proxies to 1080 for me, but that’s not hapening on my current gig and I don’t understand why. Some stuff is coming in at 4k, some 1080, some a weird format which requires it to be scaled up 115%. Needless to say it’s doing my head in but this automatic scale function is a great way to get around the problem

    Brilliant, thanks so much!!!

For anyone following, this is for PC users. For Mac users, this setting is under the Premiere Pro menu, Settings > Media, and choose the option ‘Fit to Frame’.

  • I’m an Offline features editor, usually working with 1080p proxies. So from what you’re saying, sounds like the free version could handle a feature length 1080p export to sound (AAF) and grade (XML/EDL) handover. Thanks!

UPDATE: Weird simple fix: had to expand the timeline window to reveal the scroll bar before horizontal scrolling keyboard and trackpad shortcuts work. Talk about your weird softward quirks!

This is easy. Avid has this nifty feature in the timeline, there is a button in the bottom edge of the timeline window called ‘Toggle Source/Record in Timeline’. Meaning, you can toggle the timeline to display either what’s in your record sequence, or in your source monitor.
You just need to drag and drop the sync sequence from the bin into the source monitor, toggle the timeline to ‘view source’, (I have the toggle function mapped to my keyboard), set precise mark in/out points, and then edit into your record sequence.

UPDATE: I noticed my external hardrive was making a weird noise. So I ejected, plugged in again and finally exporting successfully!!! This is really weird, since I already did a machine restart and had already unplugged the drive before. But don’t look a gift horse in the mouth….

Do you have a networked system, where different computers are accessing the same bin, from different projects, at the same time? Avid has a built in safety mechanism – if multiple users are accessing the same bin, only the first user can save the bin. The second user will only have read only access to the bin. So, try closign the bin in the new project (and any other project the bin is open in) and see if that helps.

Another option – .pmr is a database file. These corrupt all the time. Try quitting out of avid and deleting the database files. Next time you boot up avid, it should ‘scan’ media and rebuild new database files.

    Good luck!

I think people get a bit obssessed with the theoretical capabilities of the software, and forget the real-world limitation of the hardware of their machine. If your hardware can’t handle it, no amount of troubleshooting software is gonna help.
I’m glad it works for you, and a little jealous 🙂 Just not jealous enough to drop fat bank on a mammoth workhorse when the highest resolution I typically cut as an offline editor is 1080p 🙂 Hopefully I’ll be back in the proper office soon anyway and these home office issues won’t be a thing 😉

Just checking – do you have sufficient space to save the file in the location you are exporting to?
