It must be something specific to your system. I just tried it on my OS X system and it worked fine.

October 19, 2005 at 3:00 pm in reply to: Stills with over 4,000 pixels possible?

Red (as well as FX and Graffiti) supports still images files up to 16,000×16,000 pixels. However, you need to make sure that the still image format that you use can support larger images. For example, PICT limits images t0 4000×4000 pixels.

    I hope that helps.

    Hi,
Well I have good news and bad news for you. The bad news is that we have no way to unlock the outdated PACE copy protection. The good news is that you can upgrade to FEC 4.02, which uses an entirely new and much friendlier installation and copy protection scheme. While we call it an “upgrade,” the new version is a full install so it’s not a true “upgrade.”

The Text tool always auto updates. When working with the Text tool, you can change font and type size using the Font and Size menus in the Transform tab. Changes will automatically update. So you would select the Text tool, type in the Composite window, drag to select the characters you want to modify and change your font or size in the Transform tab. Or if you prefer, you can use the Style Palette to apply changes; this also auto updates. The Text tool includes all the formatting options as the Text window. You access these options in the Transform, Fill, Border and Shadow tabs in the Controls window. The only thing that you can’t do with the Text tool is import Text files.

We do not have any plans to add an Auto Update button back to the Text window as the Text tool replaced this feature; the Auto Update button caused speed issues on several host platforms.
    Sorry,
    Anne

You still have this capability, it just works a little differently. We removed the Auto Update button in version 3.0 as it was causing some speed issues. We added the Text tool so that if you need your text to auto update, you can type directly on the video in the Composite window instead of using the Text window. The Text tool appears in the Tool window or you can use the keyboard shortcut “T.”

    I hope that helps.

I haven’t seen this ad, so I’m not sure what effect you’re asking about. But as for training materials, for Red, we have classes via our Authorized Training Program. You can get information at https://www.borisfx.com/training/centers/

We also offer a training DVD for sale on our website; other DVDs and books are available from third parties. In addition, we regularly post tutorials on our website. Blue is not yet shipping, which is why there aren’t yet any training materials.
    thanks,
    Anne

October 4, 2005 at 8:31 pm in reply to: FEC 4.0 Upgrade Question

This won’t be a problem. We no longer use the PACE installer, so we actually have you remove the older FEC version plug-ins before installing. If you contact our sales department at 1-888-772-6747 or sales@borisfx.com they should be able to handle this.
    Thanks,
    Anne

Actually I’m finishing a major project in FCP 5 and have never seen this problem. It only occurs in specific instances in Color Correction mode. However, we have fixed this issue in Red 3.04, a free upgrade for Red 3.x users. The upgrade will be available late this week or early next week. We’ll send a link in our newsletter as soon as the upgrade is available.

    I hope that helps.

Beginning with verison 4.02 FEC no longer uses PACE licensing. We now offer our own streamlined cross-platform installers and licensing, including an easy-to-use electronic software download (ESD).
    Thanks,
    Anne
