Forget about dpi: Dots per inch: video does not work in inches (printwork does) it works with pixels. Just look at the height and width.
Do you have ‘scale to framesize’ on or off? It needs to be off.

Its the empty space above the videotrack you are talking about.
Make window smaller or drag devider down.

Dpi means nothing in video, its just for printing.
What counts are the pixels.
One has to remember stills look great in Photoshop at full resolution.
In a dv timeline which is 720×480/576 the still gets reduced enormously loosing a lot of sharpness.
Zooming over 100% also means quality loss regardless the length and width of the still.
Imo its best to use psd or png’s.
There is also a technique where you unsharpen mask the Lightness in Lab Color Mode.

Default sequence is three stereo tracks.
In the meantime you must have added 2 5.1 clips before these ones.
You can delete the track as Ben already said.
You can also set up an new sequence by draging the clip into the New Item icon. This will give you a matching sequence for your footage.

I do not know if this applies to macs also:
reboot with holding shift+alt(cmd?) until welcome screen.
Also clean out the media cashe in the preferences.

Try setting the field options to alwayd deinterlace if your timeline is interlaced.
What are your project settings?
