Hi Ignatio,
Is there any particular reason your shooting with green rather than blue screens? blue is generaly accepted as giving better results with video. Since you’re shooting on DV which is far from ideal (because of the 4:1:1 colour compression) you’ll really want to get the DVmatte keyer from DVgarage to get the best possible results. DVmatte has been designed from the ground up to work with DV material. Dv matte can be purchased for AE or FCP.
Apart from that, its the usual green/bluescreen rules, which I gather from your post you are, at least, reasonably well aquainted with

June 13, 2005 at 12:41 pm in reply to: Help! What is the best way in AE to render image for Film output?Hi Jimmy,
You’ll find that the Meyers book Creating Motion Graphics With After Effects has a chapter covering most of the issues involved in working with film. You’ll certainly nead to know about colour LUTs (look up tables) and the like to make sure that your work will be correctly translated to film.
I think (someone else can confirm this) that the subject is covered in volume1. If you do a lot with AE you want to have the book anyway, its brilliant.

Hi Klaus,
I havn’t heard of anyone using it for HD but you should check out Digital Anarchy’s Microcosm codec
https://www.digitalanarchy.com/micro/micro_main.html
If you have any doubts download a demo or drop an e-mail to DA head honcho Jim Tierney who is a well helpful dude

Hi Charlie,
how ooooooooold is your Avid? we’ve still got an ancient Nuvista box in the corner next door 🙂 seriously though if it’s an old ABVB thing then what you need to do is try and find out what version of the codec it uses and then install that codec in your AE machine. That will get you optimum performance in on import. Otherwise you could render an uncompressed QT out of AE and import that into the Avid, be warned though, it takes forever and a day for Avid to encode the media on import, you might also get some wierd flash frames.HTH

Hi Richard,
you basicly have two options,
1, work in widescreen mode and “squish” your finished comp for rendering
or
2, work in annamorphic (squished) mode from the start.
some people prefer to do the later, personally I prefer the former as it’s easier to get an accurate picture of your composition.
check out Rick Gerards excelent tutorial “Dr Strangepixel” you’ll find out all you need to know there,
https://www.creativecow.net/show.php?forumid=2&page=/articles/gerard_rick/pixel_madness/index.html
if you need anthing explained just post your Q back on here. Also If your looking for specific comp sizes etc make sure you state whether your working in NTSC or PAL
