    Hi,

If your using QT then the Annimation Codec is probably the default choice. However the best choice is probably Digital Anarchy’s Microcosm which has 16bit colour depth and incredibly small file sizes. To find out more about Microcosm check out

    Hi Hitman,

It’s not lack of CPU capacity thats crashing your machine, your problem is caused by your memory getting “clogged” up. The solution is to set your secret preferences to purge the memory after every 10 frames durring rendering. that should see you sorted.

I can’t remember exactly how to access the secret settings but I think (not at the machine at the mo’) that you hold down either shift, ctrl or alt while selecting preferences rom the dropdown menu

    Hi Pablo,

It seems this is the norm with 6.5 and personally I’ve yet to hear of a fix for it. Also when rendering AE will max out our processors at 100%, strangely though the machine will quite happily allow me to use a different app’ while thats going on, the performance of the other apps at the time is acceptable if not blinding.

    Hi Frank,

you need to post more details to help people get to the bottom of your problem, what NLE are you exporting to? what codec are you using? are you sure that your composition is the right size and using the correct pixel aspect ratio?

If you post all these details you should get a focused reply.

    Hi Jeremey

If you’ve got AE6.5 pro you should also have the color finesse plug in that will make thee grass/sky as green/blue as you want it to be

June 29, 2005 at 12:36 pm in reply to: QT files from Avid Meridien

    Hi David,

strange problem, I’ve been using the Avid meridian/AE combo for five years and never come across it. A couple of quick things to check however.

    1. Are you sure that the codec installed in your AE machine and and your Avid are exactly the same?

    2. Check that none of the video is over 235 in the avid as historicly anything above peak white has sometimes caused difficulty

sorry I can’t be of more help. If you use Automatic Duck you could try e-mailing Wes Plate, AD head honcho and guru on Avid/AE interoperabilty issues

    good luck

June 28, 2005 at 4:13 pm in reply to: tracking plug ins?

    Hi Neil,

A kind of left field suggestion but….

Not a plug-in as such but the tracker in the (now defunct)commotion app’ was always way better than anything you can manage with AE. I still do nearly all my desktop tracking in Commotion v4.1, the tracker data can be exported to AE and used there. Seeing as it’s now obsolete (killed of by Pinnacle, goodness knows why they bought it) you might be able to pick up a cheap copy on Ebay (or similar). Commotion is also still far superior to AE for 95% of painting work and is a terrific roto tool to boot, which might be a significant bonus for you. Brilliant app’ I’m still sick that they killed it
