In case anyone is referencing this in future, I stacked it with Barracuda’s and it worked a treat.

    Thanks David.

I may jump ship to BMD. I’m going to have a look at Speed Grade, but I don’t think it’s feature set is broad enough for our needs, so it might be BMD and Resolve for me now.

The LHe was a great card for sure.

    Hey David,

Thanks for this information. The card isn’t *that* old (less than four years), it seems a bit soon to be not supporting it any more.

    thanks again

    Thanks gents,

Sorry, I’ve been snowed under for a couple of days so I haven’t been able to check in.

I really appreciate the advice. I love CalDigit’s stuff, it’s been rock solid for me, but their mark up on the caddy’s is, I’m afraid, not something I’m willing to swallow for a unit that’s getting on a bit.

I’ve put Barracudas into an HDElement unit before and that worked out OK. I’ll probably just go with those.

I actually bought an AVpro just this morning for doing short-term archiving, but I doubt I’ll buy any more of the big units while the caddy mark-up continues to be what it is.

    many thanks again

    David,

Do you have any idea what the performance difference might be? And would there be stability issues or simply that performance difference?

    thanks

    Hi John,

Thanks for the reply. It may be that those are just big enough, although I do think that they’d be even more useful if they were just a little larger. The XDcam workflow is so well resolved within Vegas now, and proxies are a real help with cutting on the road, It’d be nice to be able to define whether or not a shot is sharp though.

BTW, do you know of a script for sync-ing clips by timecode. The job I’m about to do is multicam and the cameras will all have sync t/c. It’d be good to take the manual labour out of syncing up 🙂

    Hi Rafael

Thanks for the relpy. I’ve seen 8 streams of imported XDCam hd (35mbs) running on a Macpro two disk internal raid (sata 7200); so obviously, in that environment it’s do-able. I guess the question is; how much of a difference does the higher bitrate of the 4:2:2 codec make in the real world; and is there an interface for MBP that can handle it.

I’ve no FCP (or mac) experience, so I’m just trying to get my head round what’s possible

    thanks again
