    Hi, guys.
I finally got After Effects. I was given a project done by someone else, on 5.0. I just brought it into my new 6.5 and everything seems fine. I made the changes that were needed to fix the old project and bring it up to date for the simple graphic change. Now, I am doing pretty well until I try to export to my old Avid. My After Effects along with the rest of the video collection are on my PC, my Avid is a Mac. I don’t have as good an output from the PC as I do from the Mac. I am networking teh file over to the Mac to be digital cut to Analog Beta SP for one of the playback venues. What is teh best render from After Effects to go to my MAC?

    Thank you
    Charlie

    Hi Charlie,
how ooooooooold is your Avid? we’ve still got an ancient Nuvista box in the corner next door 🙂 seriously though if it’s an old ABVB thing then what you need to do is try and find out what version of the codec it uses and then install that codec in your AE machine. That will get you optimum performance in on import. Otherwise you could render an uncompressed QT out of AE and import that into the Avid, be warned though, it takes forever and a day for Avid to encode the media on import, you might also get some wierd flash frames.

That is what I tried. No flash frame problems, but I wasn’t happy with the overall quality. Have some color fluttering that bothers me, just not stable color.
Yes it is an ABVB system. So how would I get the codec for a MAC Avid and make it work in my PC? I love new toys, I love the learning process, just wish the learning curve had fewer turns.

At one time there was a Windows codec for the ABVB, but I can’t find a download for it anywhere on the Avid site. But Animation codec at 100% should be fine. Remember that the ABVB uses upper first field order.

    Thanx Tom,
I’ll try that the next time.
