December 7, 2011 at 9:13 am in reply to: Keyframe Path

To make your path temporarily permanently visible! 😉

    1) Apply the Write On effect to a new (black) solid layer, place it in the BG.

    2) Select the Null Objects Position keyframes.

    3) Copy them and then paste them into the Write On Brush Position value

You should now see a white line following the path.

    4) Select the Solid layer and go to Layer > Guide Layer. This will prevent it from rendering.

    Hope this helps.

    cheers,

December 7, 2011 at 9:04 am in reply to: Logos that scroll…. causing jittering

When creating scrolling text for the screen you should always make it move at an even multiple of the frame rate you’re using to avoid this kind of juddering. So, if you are working in a 25 FPS comp, make it move at 50 pixels per second or 75 pixels per second to minimize the juddering effect.

Of course you could do this manually, using the Graph Editor and Info Panel as guides but much easier to use the free AutoScroll animation presets. There are two, one for scrolling vertically and another for scrolling horizontally. These should help you avoid juddering. If you still have problems, as the others mentioned, use a slight directional blur and avoid text with thin lines such as serif fonts.

    Hope this helps!

December 6, 2011 at 9:57 am in reply to: AE & Photoshop

    Hi there,

Only actual Text layers can be converted into editable text in AE. As you’ve discovered it doesn’t work on Smart objects as they are in essence, rendered layers that are linked to another file. Only solution would be to copy the text from the smart object source file and copy it into a new text layer. Or import the linked Smart Object PSD directly into AE and drop it into your comp as a nested comp.

    Hope this helps!

    cheers,

    Angie

December 5, 2011 at 4:13 pm in reply to: Motion-tracking based stereo pan

    Hi there,

Yes, you can set up and Expression quite easily that will link the Motion Tracking Position (or Anchor Point) property to the Stereo Mixer effect’s Left Pan and Right Pan properties. Use the Pickwhip to link the properties together. Then, if you need to adjust the range used you can use the Linear expression to do so.

Here’s a tutorial that shows how to use the Linear Expression. Although this one links Time Remapping to the Audio Levels property, it’s the same process, just substitute the different properties.

Hmm, it may take a bit of work to get them looking like that as they are a completely different drawing style. You may need to redraw them using simpler shapes. However, you could try a couple of things. First of all use the Posterize effect to reduce the amount of Colors used. To give it a more “blocky” look. In the comp panel, go into the Resolution menu and change it to “Custom”. Experiment by manually adjusting the numbers. This allows you to reduce the actual display resolution, so you can create the effect of these old computer games. However, the characters in those games were actually designed with the resolution in mind so yours may not work quite so well.

Anyway, once you’ve done this, in order to render it out this way, you need to make sure to render at current resolution. You also need to then go into the Output Module settings and use the Stretch options to force the comp size back to it’s original size.

There is also the Mosaic effect but I never fins it looks as authentic as actually messing with the resolution settings.

    cheers,

    Hi John,

Good morning! I think the first thing to check would be the Composition Duration. With the Comp active, got to Composition > Composition Settings and make sure it’s the length you need. I suspect that you may have inadvertently created a comp with a Duration of 00:00:00:01. This could explain why you can’t do any time based operations.

    Hope this helps!

    cheers,

    Hi Gary,

Glad u liked my dancing bottles! 🙂

Have you tried toggling the Collapse Transform switch to see if that helps?

If you want to upload your project I’d be happy to take a look.

    Cheers,

    Angie
