Hi there,
Yes as John says you can do this by automatically adding and Easy Ease to the motion keyfrmaes. Further tweaking can be applied if necessary using the Graph Editor.
After Effects also has a Keyframe Assistant specifically for this purpose to ensure an even speed when panning or zooming using the Scale property. It’s name is a little off-putting but it’s very easy to use, it’s called (wait for it) “Default spatial Interpolation to Linear” Phew!
There are also lots of free animation presets for After Effects that will automatically add these kinds of Ken Burns effects with a drag and drop. you can Browse the free animation presets by going to Animation > Browse Presets. This will open Adobe Bridge where you can see previews of the presets before applying them.
Here’s a link to a list of presets in the Help. you can also check here for info regarding the keyframe assistant I spoke of earlier.
Incidentally, you can also do some of this in Final Cut Pro.If my memory serves me correctly you can right-click on a keyframe in FCP (7) and choose to Ease it or Smooth it.

Hi Nathan,
It’s hard to tell as I can’t see the entire Timeline but it’s most likely to do with the Mask Modes you are using. Try setting them both to Add first to make sure you can get them working (also, double-check there isn’t another copy of the layer beneath this one I can’t see in your screenshot!)
If they work in Add mode then you may want to experiment using Intersect or Difference mode to get the effect you want.
By the way, if you just want a soft wipe then you may want to try some of the free transition affects as an alternative. For Example the basic Linear Wipe transition will do pretty much what you want and is much easier to set up.

Are the layers 3D? If so then try clicking on the Collapse Transformations switch. You may also need to make the precomp a 3D layer.

If you have animated the Anchor Point it’s fairly easy to create the movement you need, all you need to do is simply add a new default Camera, it will default to pointing towards the anchor point so will appear as if it’s animating when in fact it’s the layer that’s animating. All you need to do then is a dd in a couple of tilts and zooms to the camera.

The All Masks option is in the Stroke effects BTW! Also, check the Online Help for additional help on using the Stroke effect. Good luck! 🙂

It’s likely that you have an additional mask in there that’s a rectangle the size of your layer. Delete this and make sure “all paths” is selected.
