Hi there,
The simplest way is to select the clip you want to key (and the underlying clip if necessary) in the Timeline in PremPro. Right-click on these selected clips and choose “Replace with After Effects Composition”.
This will create a linked comp in AE. Do your keying and then save the AE project.
Jump back to PremPro and the timeline should be updated with your chages made in AE.
If you need to adjust the settings further do not do the same process again, simply right-click on the dynamically linked portion and choose edit Original, this will re-open the comp where you can make changes and save when finished.

Rotobrush is definitely useful. Also you can use the Autotrace feature to automatically create masks from luma or alpha. Hope this helps!

To add to David’s good suggestions;
A little tip that I picked up along the way is to hold down the Shift key when you hit RAM preview. this will default to loading every second frame into RAM, effectively giving you twice the amount of RAM for your previews. Be aware that you’ll be watching at a lower frame rate but usually it’s enough for rough previews.

I’d actually recommend that you open your FCP project in Premiere Pro and use Dynamic Link to apply and modify grain using the Match Grain effect. You’ll never get the level of control you need to do this in a video editing app. It really needs AE’s high end compositing features.

Hi there,
Instead of copying and pasting the element, right-click on the element in the Timeline and choose “Replace with After Effects Composition”. this will use Dynamic link to send a linked section of footage over to AE. The nice thing about this is that you will get the clip exactly as it should be but also, any changes you make to it will be updated in your edit in Premiere Pro.

You could try using an expressions to link the Point of Interest of the Camera layer to the Anchor Point of the object. Making sure then that the Camera is Aut-Orienting towards the point of interest. However, you may still lose the existing animation. Better to start with Auto-Oriented setting and then adjust to taste with keyframes other than the reverse method.
