Yeah, there’s some tolerance on Youtube because they can’t police everything. But there’s nothing stopping someone who holds the copyright from finding your video and flagging it for a copyright violation in the future, which could get the video taken down. And you wouldn’t want to have put your client through that.

Also, Youtube has automated functions that will detect some copyrighted music and remove it from the video immediately upon upload. There’s plenty of copyright, royalty free music that you can use. And there’s more that you can pay for to license that’s nowhere near the cost of licensing whatever music they’re trying to use.

I would just test render problem sections with lower bit rates. Try 10 mbs or 8 mbs. But I’m not sure what’s ultimately causing your problem. I’ve never had this issue with an HV30. Also, try reducing the resolution to 1440×1080, since that’s what you’re shooting.

I have an HV30 and used to shoot a lot of video on it, and I never had this problem when uploading to Youtube. What’s your bit rate that you’re rendering to? Try adjusting that, but as Stephen said, that’s a rolling shutter artifact. So I don’t know how it wouldn’t show up in other renders.

  • Go to “Media Generators”, which by default is at the bottom of the window on the upper left where Project Media is. Then, on the options on the left, select “Solid Color” and pick black.

  • Create another video track on top of your video, and add just the color black. Copy the video track and add it onto a video track over the color black. Use the cookie cutter plugin or masking tool (in the Pan and Crop function) on the top track and create the shape you want to cut out. Bring down the opacity a little on the black and adjust it to where you can see through as much or as little as you want on the footage underneath it.

No, you’re stuck with 720×480 max on DVD, regardless of the project size. You have to burn to a Blu Ray disc to get a higher resolution.

  • I believe I once test-live recorded something with my Canon Vixia HV30, a minidv camcorder. Test it out if you can. I’d be curious as to whether it’s possible.

February 13, 2012 at 5:58 am in reply to: Transitions not being applied properly

Glad I could help. No, I don’t have quantize to frames disabled, though I checked it several times and tried de-selecting it once or twice to see if that made a difference. And snapping is on.

When the problem showed up more rarely on projects I did a while ago, what I found to be the issue was was that there might have been some leftover piece of a video event that I somehow left on top of another event that I didn’t see, and I would move the whole event in order to see something hiding underneath that messed with the transition. Or, I’d somehow put the same event down twice in the same spot, perhaps pasting it twice.

I checked for all that, and it was still happening pretty constantly. I think I noticed it happening more on clips where I was changing the audio that was attached to the video. Even so, that should have no effect on Vegas automating transitions.

No problem. Even so, though, I’ve never had to overlap events before in order to make transitions-Vegas would create them automatically, and still does most of the time.

I finished my projects, and usually I don’t use a lot of transitions like I did in this video. If it happens again (why kid myself? Of course it will) I’ll report it to Sony.

[Mike Kujbida] “Events have to overlap, even if it’s only one frame, before you can apply a transition.
BTW, if you want to apply a transition to one event only, you still have to apply a fade in or out to it otherwise nothing happens.”

With the exception of what I’ve just dealt with, I’ve never experienced this. Vegas always applied transitions by automatically doing what otherwise would have to be done manually by ungrouping video from audio, extending them half a second each over the event before and after, and then grouping the video to the audio again. And even with applying transitions to events, Vegas automatically applies it as if I had already put a fade. Now the problem for me is that it does this even though it should be doing an actual transition between two events.
