I have a client who plans on doing that with the instructional video series I’m shooting. I think my client’s plan is to put short lessons that people can download on amazon.com, as well as on iTunes. We haven’t discussed in detail what we’re going to do, but those are two sites we have discussed. A quick google search yielded some results as well, though I have no idea how much money people make on those or if they work as they claim to.

I forget where I read about this (maybe the NoFilmSchool website), but here’s one site that I just heard about.
And I usually use Kevin MacLeod’s music for online videos.

Double click the clip, and it will be highlighted. On the lower right, you’ll see the length of the clip listed.

I don’t know what the issue is, but this isn’t unheard of in Vegas.

I had this issue fairly frequently when using Cineform avi footage. What file format is your video?

I just found the answer and got it working, but I want to leave this post up to be a lesson to everyone-sometimes just laying out, step by step, what you’ve done, so that you can hear/read yourself doing it, is enough to find your mistake.
What I was missing was that I’m not supposed to changed the aspect ratio in the project. You have to remove letterboxing in a situation like this in the render, by rendering to widescreen. Duh.
It’s still not quite perfect, though, so I’m wondering if I’m missing anything else. I rendered to 640×360 widescreen, PAR of 1, as mp4, with small black bars along the top, bottom, and sides. Here it is.

What kind of camera? My Canon Vixia HF S21 shoots to AVCHD, and estimating based on a project I have that’s about 3 hours of footage, it takes up 18.7 GB, so about 6 GB per hour. And that’s shooting at a bit rate of 17 MPS.

It depends on the bit rate and file format, which can vary greatly.
