Transitions not being applied properly
I’ve had this problem rarely before, but a project I’ve been working on for the last day has had this problem frequently. When I drag transitions from the transitions window to two events that are next to each other, the transition will only apply itself to one clip, such as on the second before or after where the two events are next to each other, and it doesn’t make the events’ video automatically transition over each other. I am having to sometimes manually ungroup video with sound, extend each video event for the few frames I want transitions such as flashes, and then grouping each event with their respective sound again.
What’s going on? Sometimes I noticed this problem when it was like there was a hidden event right around where I wanted the transition that was throwing things off that I somehow didn’t notice, but that’s not happening now. Half the time it seems to work fine, and then half the time it only applies the transition to a second after or before the moment where it should be making two events over lap. I’m using Vegas Pro 10e.

Events have to overlap, even if it’s only one frame, before you can apply a transition.

Using the Ignore Event Grouping icon on the toolbar (Ctrl+Shift+U) is a lot faster.
Click it to enable it, stretch the video a few frames and click it again to disable it. -

Vegas always applied transitions by automatically doing what otherwise would have to be done manually by ungrouping video from audio, extending them half a second each over the event before and after, and then grouping the video to the audio again. And even with applying transitions to events, Vegas automatically applies it as if I had already put a fade. Now the problem for me is that it does this even though it should be doing an actual transition between two events.

Angelo, apologies as I must not be understanding something in your original post.
The default transition for any event overlap has always been a fade.
You apply a specific transition after you’ve overlapped them. -
No problem. Even so, though, I’ve never had to overlap events before in order to make transitions-Vegas would create them automatically, and still does most of the time.
I finished my projects, and usually I don’t use a lot of transitions like I did in this video. If it happens again (why kid myself? Of course it will) I’ll report it to Sony.

Angelo, I owe you (and anyone else reading this thread) an apology as you can drop transitions onto side by side events.
It was bugging me that you said it could be done yet I couldn’t do it so I started playing.
The key is to drop it exactly at the beginning or end of an event.
I’ve been using Vegas for years and did not know that was possible so thank you for teaching an old dog a new trick 🙂As to why it wasn’t working for you, did you by chance have Quantize to Frames disabled?

Glad I could help. No, I don’t have quantize to frames disabled, though I checked it several times and tried de-selecting it once or twice to see if that made a difference. And snapping is on.
When the problem showed up more rarely on projects I did a while ago, what I found to be the issue was was that there might have been some leftover piece of a video event that I somehow left on top of another event that I didn’t see, and I would move the whole event in order to see something hiding underneath that messed with the transition. Or, I’d somehow put the same event down twice in the same spot, perhaps pasting it twice.
I checked for all that, and it was still happening pretty constantly. I think I noticed it happening more on clips where I was changing the audio that was attached to the video. Even so, that should have no effect on Vegas automating transitions.

The only time Vegas will not do transitions properly is when the 2 events are not butted up right against each other. All it takes is a gap of 1 frame and the transition will not work, and will only apply to 1 event. When the two events butt up, a blue line appears.
Having quantisize to frames on will interfere with this.
The only time I overlap events manually is when the default fade/x-fade is not long enough and I deliberately manually tweak it.
