I don’t quite get it. I talked to a representative for Adobe online, and he said that I can buy After Effects as stand alone software. Amazon even has it for $600.
He did try to get me to subscribe to the Creative Cloud several times, and in retrospect, it wouldn’t be surprising at all if he didn’t tell me that I must subscribe to the Creative Cloud in order to use After Effects, since it just means that I’ll have to subscribe at some point if I want to keep using it.
John, if Boris Red does motion graphics as well, where can I find examples of it? I’ve never found any examples from filmmakers or anything on Boris Red’s website showing it. At most I found things like color match, compositing, and plugins that turn existing footage of yours into all kinds of light shows and gradient maps (that I don’t ever plan on using).
After Effects has, well, just about everything, it seems. But if you’re saying I have to subscribe to the Creative Cloud, I think that’s nonsense, and I won’t buy it.

I’ve been looking through the After Effects website, and I’m not even sure how to buy it. They offer Creative Cloud membership, which lets you store your projects, I guess. But the site is ridiculously opaque as far as how to buy After Effects and whether Creative Cloud is something that’s optional or required. All I see are membership plans for Creative Cloud.
Way to tell me to keep my money, Adobe.

Just be sure to report bugs to Sony. I had a problem for a long time with a certain type of footage that worked fine in previous versions but would cause my project to crash on 11. It took them over a month, but they were finally able to replicate it and fix it.

[John Rofrano] “Where you editing the exact same project on Monday with the same media in the same location? or were you editing a different project. If a different project, try and go back and open Monday’s project and see if it plays without issues. This will tell you if it’s the project or your computer in general. If the same project, try using System Restore to go back to Monday or restore from a daily incremental backup (you do backup your editing workstation daily don’t you? if not… you should!) 😉
BTW, I just had a similar experience where a piece of software was working a few days ago but not today. I restored from my backup and within an hour I was back in business. I use Acronis TrueImage to perform my daily incremental backups but if you are not backing up your system daily and you depend on it to make a living, you are playing with fire.

It was a different project, but all the video for my projects is stored on the same external hard drive, and backed up on another external hard drive.
I don’t use system restore regularly. I guess I’ve got to do it. I did it for a while, but stopped because I had to do regular changes to it, like clear out old restore points that were filling up my hard drive or something. Maybe I’ll try Acronis.

Do you have Quantize to Frames on in your project? That’s the only thing I can think of.

I’ve thought about that, but I’m not sure what’s changed. Java’s tried to do a bunch of annoying updates, which I just ignore after a while. Adobe’s had at least one as well. Not really sure what else.
But I was editing videos on Monday and didn’t have this problem at all, even with multiple video tracks and effects.

One more thing. The audio for certain peaks like crashes and hits is much softer in the rendered video than when I’m previewing. I have the Track Compressor running to reduce the dynamic range, but this too has never been an issue before. Even using the volume envelope and adding the sound to additional audio tracks barely helps.

I happened to use the internet on a Windows 8 computer today. It was unbelievably bad.

I edit on platter hard drives that are external and connected via an esata cable to an enclosure. It’s worked well for me.
With your computer, though, if you upgrade Vegas, you’ll see a big improvement in performance.
