Wondering about Windows 8 and new versions of Vegas
Hey guys, it’s been a while. I got back into editing after some time off and am still using Vegas 11, so I’m wondering what to expect for Vegas 13.
I would like to use Windows 7 as long as possible. I don’t like the idea of a having to switch to 8 at some point since it looks like it’s trying to emulate a tablet on a desktop.
So, when Vegas 13 comes out, is there some consensus on what OS to use? If Windows 8 works better for Vegas, I might bite the bullet if possible and get it, but it’ll be a machine I only use for editing. I should work that way now, but I don’t have the choice to buy separate work computer.
What about after Vegas 13? Will we all have to upgrade to Windows 8 eventually when Microsoft stops supporting 7 and Vegas won’t run on an outdated OS?

Remember the days when things didn’t change so fast that you actually had some time to feel like you could master something?
I wish developers would just let things BE for awhile. There are lots of “version ones” that don’t scream for a “version two” six weeks later.

IMO, the next version of Vegas will run on Windows 7. I doubt there is anything in Win8 only that Vegas wants to use.

I’ll be a few years until Sony pushes people to Windows 8. I’d bet that Windows 9 will be out before Sony tells us to ditch Windows 7.

I agree 100% with you Kelly, Developers need to let things be
for a while and put a stop to this ridiculously quick output
of new versions, without anything much being improved anyway.

HIGHLY unlikely, since Windows 8 came out in 2012. Microsoft’s history is major OS releases approximately every three years.

$ You’re right $ – it would be one thing if the app’s got really better and more stable with each release but that’s not the case. But with every other NLE on this annual NAB update frenzy marketing departments try to keep up with each other without regard to engineers or end user experience.

I know you are joking but the reality is that Windows 8.1 will be launched at the Microsoft Build developer conference in San Francisco on June 26 and the final version will be available as a free downloadable Windows 8 update.
Windows 8.1 will reintroduce the Start menus and allow you to boot directly to the desktop avoid their “Hello Kitty” Metro screen. So it will be a lot more like Windows 7 and a lot less like the unpopular Windows Phone.

It bogles me at what some experienced corporations do at times
