What happens if:
1) You choose to offline the file?
2) You add the file to a brand new project. Does Premiere Read it? Close Premiere and reload the new project, same issue?
Where did your footage come from? What operating system and Premiere Pro version?

To plug my own product, if you need to fulfill ProRes requests for clients, then check out PRHelper https://www.fallenempiredigital.com/blog/prhelpersoftware/
It’s a premium front-end for the program FFMBC (a version of the beloved FFMPEG that has some more bells and whistles for broadcast codecs, including ProRes encoding on Windows) whose primary strength is batching files during the beginning of ingest.
While DNxHD works great for most situations, you may still find ProRes useful for any workflow where you have to trade off with a Mac user or to deal with frame sizes/frame rates that DNxHD does not offer.

My bet is that it’s hitting a corrupt file. I assume you’re just flipping open the drive and it crashes on the top directory?
Try these two things:
1) Does dragging a file deeper in one of the folders from the drive into the bin of Premiere work without issue?
2) What if you “sanitize” the drive by putting any files that are top level into a folder, can you drill down into other folders using Media Browser?

Prores all the way. PluralEyes will read it and Speedgrade will import it.
The ENG style camera formats like XF, XDCAM, AVCHD, and so on really benefit from a proper intermediate codec for more advanced workflows.

For RED footage, camera metadata is stored burned into the R3D (footage) file. Once the metadata is altered by a program, say an exposure adjustment is made, then a sidecar RMD file is created.
Premiere Pro doesn’t respect the portion of metadata that links external audio (Redcine X has a nice mechanism for syncing second system audio for dailies). Leads me to believe the issue is strictly Premiere rather than a bad transfer.
Just some good knowledge to know regardless.

That shouldn’t matter, Adobe implements the RED SDK pretty well and R3D files contain both audio and video in comparison to some other foldered content that separates it.
I think the general thing to do is clear cache and reset preferences as a starting point.
Alternately, you could try to go to sequence > render audio and see if that assists anything.
When this happens, regardless of footage type, there was usually some error in audio conforming.

Best thing is not to use Premiere. It’s not designed for processing dailies…. and neither is Prelude as much as it would like to.

Are you using CUDA enabled processing? Turn this off, as it does alter how things are blended together in terms of opacity. With you being on CS5, I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re hitting an issue caused by the lack of maturity in the feature.

Use the Project Manager feature with the “collect files and copy to new location” as it will handle RED files properly (At least CC does, I rarely use this feature so I’d assume it’s the same for the older CS6 as I don’t remember it being listed as an improved feature).
Alternately, if you really want to delete old files instead of copying files https://edlspy.felixhuesken.de/ EDL Spy in trial mode will help you at least see what is being used in your edit so you can manually delete around it.

Put clip in a timeline that matches the larger size (or large if you want to see edges) and warp stabilize. Nest this timeline into your standard def timeline and you can resize and reposition without disturbing the warp stabilizer result.
