Unusual problem with junk mattes and opacity
I’m having an unusual problem with Premiere Pro CS5.0.3 and am hoping that someone here could help me out with it.
I’ve got a bunch of footage with an actor in a white room. I’ve used a 16-point garbage matte to mask out unwanted scenery and the Fast Color Corrector to blow out the background to true white. Next, I’ve got a list of actions the actor is taking, which are along the left side of the screen. The client wants the full list up at all times, but with the opacity dropped to around 10%, and the current action only at full opacity. So I’ve put the full list on one video track at 10% opacity, and then also put it on the next track up at full opacity with a Crop to reveal only the current action. The list of actions is rasterized text from a Photoshop document provided by the client.
Here’s the problem. When i turn the opacity on the full list down below about 25%, all of the text which exists over the original video (inside the garbage matted area) disappears entirely, leaving me with only the beginnings of the words. I did another project for this client a few months ago the same way, and this did not happen.
I’ve tried nesting the matted video, but that didn’t change anything. At the moment i’m working around it with another copy of the list placed below the ones i need, at 100% opacity but with the text changed to white. This achieves the desired effect except when the actor passes below the words, where i just get light gray words over the actor instead of gray transparent words over him.
If anyone could provide some insight I’d appreciate it greatly. Thanks!
