RED Audio – Plays in REDCINEX, not in Premiere
Hey ya’ll. I’m running into an audio issue with RED Epic 5K footage in my Premiere timeline. The audio plays back from the clips in REDCINEX but as soon as we import them into our project, each clip only has the first 1 seconds of audio. There is a waveform for this first second of audio but then nothing after that. We did a work around of doing CC and an export from CineX but I’d like to figure out what is going on.
This problem seems to affect the entire magazine but only certain magazines.
Any ideas?

Did you copy over the entire folder structure for that Red media?

Yes, we’ve tried copying the folder structure and individual clips.

That shouldn’t matter, Adobe implements the RED SDK pretty well and R3D files contain both audio and video in comparison to some other foldered content that separates it.
I think the general thing to do is clear cache and reset preferences as a starting point.
Alternately, you could try to go to sequence > render audio and see if that assists anything.
When this happens, regardless of footage type, there was usually some error in audio conforming.

That is true provided the meta data is read correctly by the media browser/file importer. If that isn’t then the audio files wont conform correctly which is what you are suggesting. That is why I asked if all of the media directories were moved over.

For RED footage, camera metadata is stored burned into the R3D (footage) file. Once the metadata is altered by a program, say an exposure adjustment is made, then a sidecar RMD file is created.
Premiere Pro doesn’t respect the portion of metadata that links external audio (Redcine X has a nice mechanism for syncing second system audio for dailies). Leads me to believe the issue is strictly Premiere rather than a bad transfer.
Just some good knowledge to know regardless.

Where are your media cache directories located? What happens if you import the files into AE or Prelude?

I have seen this issue when AC3 filter could not decode correctly as well but not with uncompressed Wave files.

I’ve cleared the cache files and reimported the footage with no avail. The files still all contain the first second of audio but then go blank after.

Have you tried AE or Prelude yet? Is this OSX or Windows?
