This is assuming you didn’t make some “duh” move like not save your work as you resized clips, etc, to make your edit look nice.
1. Restart your computer. This will clear bugs caused by info in RAM. If you’re a chronic computer hibernator… they forget about this step.
2. Hold shift as you launch Premiere, this clears some internal preferences and things. Relaunch your project.
3. Assuming it reads the MTS file and you’re good to go, go to Composition > Delete Render Files (might not be the exact wording). This will clear the green on the timeline back to yellow/red.
4. Pick a smaller area of the timeline and preview render it. Sometimes, what you’ve seen are just render errors. In my experience, dynamic link can introduce some wonkiness to preview renders.

Hold down the shift key while launching Premiere – this will reset some internal workings of Adobe (mostly internal preferences and caches) and usually does the trick when weird hangups occur.

Windows computer? Try https://www.asio4all.com/ it creates a virtual ASIO device from your usb mic. I had to use it all the time on the old version of Adobe Audition since it didn’t recognize most USB audio equipment.

November 10, 2011 at 6:38 am in reply to: Trying to attach Canon HV30 digital video camera to my brand new Mac MiniHmm… I wonder what camcorder I’m thinking of then. If you’re going to do tape capture then Firewire is basically your only choice. Get the 400->800 cable. A firewire to thunderbolt cable could work theoretically, but I wouldn’t risk your editing program not recognizing something hooked up to that input, not when the cables are still kind of expensive.

This is a ‘duh’ question but are you saving your project after you render the timeline? This locks in the connection.

November 10, 2011 at 6:22 am in reply to: Trying to attach Canon HV30 digital video camera to my brand new Mac MiniA Firewire 400 to 800 cable should work, 800 is backwards compatible. It is a hard drive based camera, so I assume firewire will have it pop up like a drive, rather than ‘capture’ like a tape based camera. It also has USB IIRC. HDMI is a dead end in this situation.

Is this hiss white noise or does it have more of an “electrical” bite?
Does this hiss carry to the captured footage in your editing suite?
If it doesn’t carry over… it may just be a crappy headphone amp.
If it does carry over to your recorded footage regardless of what mic/cable combination you use, what are your settings on this panel? https://asia.cnet.com/i/r/2005/pav/39229462/1.jpg

I can’t say much for Avid, but if you keep all of your footage on a SAN or an external hard drive, Premiere handles back-and-forths between platforms easily. If you’re using an external drive, you may have to relink the projects as Windows uses drive letters and Mac doesn’t, it’s also reflected in each platform’s project files.

November 10, 2011 at 4:55 am in reply to: Converting iTunes M4V to something that imports correctly in After EffectsThere are ways to do it (we’ve had to do it to include a tv show my friend DP’ed for his reel on really short notice), but I would assume it’s against the policy of this forum, and most, to tell you the methods.

November 9, 2011 at 7:36 pm in reply to: After Effects > Premiere Pro Playback QuestionHaving a graphics card doesn’t mean it will render faster in-timeline. If it’s coming from After Effects then it’ll render through the AE render engine which primarily uses the CPU (some effects like drop shadow can be rendered with OpenGL).
The Mercury Engine is really meant to optimize playback and edit of long GOP codecs from a camera like the mpeg variants (h.264, avchd, and so forth). A lot of built-in effects are also optimized to use the graphics card in Premiere as well.
In your sequence monitor, one of the icons under the video you can click on to get a menu and set playback resolution to 1/4 (1/8th and 1/16th will be grayed out, these are reserved for things like 4K video). I don’t have Premiere open so I don’t recall exactly what icon it is. This may help.
There is no way to set a “rendered preview” quality in Premiere. You can change preview render codecs but chances are its set to mpeg I-frame which, in the grand scheme of things, doesn’t add a lot of overhead time to the render.
After Effects is a beast on processing and there isn’t much to do to solve it other than getting a workstation with more processor cores. RAM helps but 16gigs shouldn’t be a bottleneck in your setup.
