Try this:

1) Each time you start your computer, go to System Settings – International
2) Change the language from your language to English
3) Change the language from English to your language
4) Start FCP
5) Your shortcuts and the FCP shortcuts work OK

You have to do this each time you restart the computer.

make sure you have not rendered the multiclip within the timeline

normally that would/could be due to mismatched clip properties, sequence settings and video playback settings (tho FCP is considerably more capable of dealing with such mismatches these days)

in can also be an indicator that your canvas is zoomed in to a level where the entire playback image is not fully displayed within the Canvas, or that you have other windows overlapping the canvas window and/or that the canvas itself is overlapping the edge of your display area

i dare say there are other reasons but thats all I can think of at the moment, hopefully double checking and fixing any of those issues will fix the problem for you

FWIW, there is nothing special about Apple’s Vignette filter … beyond the obvious need to address the issue, if you just need a vignette then there are plenty of free fxscript filters out there that will handily do the job … a quick google will turn them up for you

bottom line seems to be that FCP does not play nicely with too many foreign keyboards / layouts … try to find yourself a standard US or UK keyboard and work with that and you should be fine. might be a good reason to buy that dedicated FCP keyboard / overlay you always wanted 🙂

I’d go with a straight zoom / crop … simple as that. Your audience is far more sophisticated than you give them credit for, and they’ll easily accept muddy looking archive footage mixed with the otherwise pristine footage. There are plenty of ways to handle and present the lower quality footage both creatively and artistically too, but a full cropped zoom is my personal favorite.

You might want to consider taking your SD source to a production house equipped with Teranex or Alchemist hardware and have your footage unconverted there. Depending on the quality of the source the results can be remarkable good.

The Elastic Aspect plug will certainly work at a pinch where a full anamorphic distort is worse than bad, but bear in mind that this plug is just manipulating an already anamorphically distorted image, it is not handling any SD to HD scaling itself, it’s only adjusting the spread of the distortion between 4:3 to 16:9 . If you’re going to use it then do yourself a favor and use it sparingly and with modest settings, the more aggressive you get the worse it’ll look.

Just for clarity, there is no transcoding taking place with either FCP’s Log and Transfer of EX footage or when using Sony’s XDCAM Transfer … in both case’s its a strict transfer of the captured clip’s audio/video data (the “essence”) and the only thing that happens is that that essence is placed into a quicktime container (or “wrapper”). That being the case, there is no way to manipulate the data during the transfer / rewrap process … its something you’d have to do after the fact I’m afraid.

Sorry for the explanation … its always nicer to give an answer, but sometimes there isn’t one to give

Sounds like you may have some phase canceling issues … on the problem clip’s, try muting one of the channels and center panning the other.

Thats the DRV ADJ error I believe …

Meaning: Adjustment processing failed when a disc was inserted.
Action: Try ejecting the disc and inserting it again, or insert another disc

Did you insert an XDCAM Dual Layer 50GB disc maybe? You need the F75 for Dual Layer support, the F70 will only accept Single Layer 23GB media.
