This is sadly true of Lacie’s desktop drive based offerings but is not true of their laptop drive based units.

Xavier has posted that he’s cutting ProResLT and needs to master out to DV AVI (so obviously there is going to be a first generational loss in exporting that master)
Matt is just pointing out there is no specific need to export a DV MOV and “rewrap” as its possible to master directly to DV AVI from FCP’s Quicktime Conversion options.
If for whatever reason, using Compressor to make a DV MOV is preferred, then sure enough MPEG Streamclip (as already recommended) can be used to rewrap as AVI (ie without any recompression).Best

The portable Lacie Rugged drives are excellent field drives Peter, and they perform as edit drives very reliably indeed. You have absolutely no cause for concern beyond the usual best practice of maintaing backups of your media.
If you search the internet you may find countess posts from folks warning others away from Lacie drives … every one of those posts is almost certainly with regard to Lacie’s 3.5″ (desktop drive) based models which have indeed suffered from poor reliability and even poorer reputation, but not so their 2.5″ (notebook drive) based models which are every bit as reliable as those from other respected manufacturers.

Yes, it’ll work just fine but the 7200 rpm drive may feel a little snappier. You’d probably be better off spending the extra but I’d be inclined to spend that extra on a bigger disc as 320GB is not too roomy these days.
If you can double your money then a better purchase would likely be a Lacie Little Big Disk Quadra or G-Technology G-RAID mini

Am not sure, but I don’t think the MXO2 embeds sequence timecode in its HD-SDI signal output … does FCP even provide sequence timecode data to its I/O devices?
FWIW (which is nothing) I routinely use embedded sequence timecode laying off to HDCAM from our Edius HDBX1000 systems … its a great feature when it works.

Appreciate your sharing the feedback from Alsoft, John… you never know when someone might be asking themselves a similar question.
That said, I’m guessing its just the original subject line, but in case anyone else wanders along later and finds themselves confused because of it … Disk Warrior and Repair Permissions are totally different operations; Repair Permissions compares the permissions of a subset of files (the basic OS instal) within your existing directory and if it finds any permissions that are not set according to their predetermined state then it changes them back, Disk Warrior on the other hand builds/rebuilds an entirely new directory to completely replace the old one, not a permissions check but a brand new directory, thereby fixing many possible corruption issues beyond mere permissions bits.

Not sure about 5.1 earphones Jeffrey, but can note that the Matrox MXO2 I/O box offers direct surround sound monitoring outputs if you happen to have a suitable speaker set up already. Could be worth a look.
