    Having my share of output problems using my new MX02 to Sony HDW-1800 HDCAM. When I attempt to use FCP output tool and after setting in/out and attempt to assemble the VTR begins to rewind to TC then stops a few seconds short of set TC and FCP reports timecode problem or TC break when in fact the TC is good and consistent. When I manually cue the tape just before set TC the FCP output tool works correctly although about 4-minutes into my 72-min timeline the video starts skipping as if a strobe FX is on the time line.

    The only way I can get a good output is to manually throw the VTR in to record and manually playback the time line which means timecode on tape does not match timeline. MX)2 and HDCAM deck has ref from Blackmagic sync gen and everything is good with exception to problems listed above.

    Any one having problems outputting to HDCAM with Matrox MXO? Anyone know if it’s possible to jam sync TC on HDW-1800 from SDI IN?

    I have output to HDCAM SR twice from my MXO2…no issues. That is really odd. Why not uninstall then reinstall the MXO2 drivers? Or make sure you have the latest ones.

    yep, need to do that. I loose this deck in about 5 hours and have 4 hours of output so not much time for trouble shooting.

    Manual output is working just fine although I hate delivering masters with random timecode, prefer to have it match the timeline. How about my question about making HDW-1800 timecode generator jam sync to SDI input?

    I haven’t tried so I don’t know. I haven’t been able to do that with digibeta, so I don’t think it is possible. I hope the new drivers work.

    Unfortunately not in an edit bay now, but I remember having a similar problem with the Kona 3… Turned out to be a menu setting on the deck… That model is a bear… Double and triple check all the menus pertaining to reference video and timecode.

    FYI – most likely an MX02 software problem, I just figured out there was an update Oct 29 and my driver is a bit older than that.

    Also finally found a free HDW-1800 manual online and discovered this feature;
    To synchronize with the LTC data contained in an HDSDI signal input to this unit: • Set F1 (TCG SRC) to “SDI IN”. • Set F2 (TCG MODE) to “RGN:LTC”.
    To synchronize with the VITC data contained in an HDSDI signal input to this unit: • Set F1 (TCG SRC) to “SDI IN”. • Set F2 (TCG MODE) to “RGN:VITC”.

    Unfortunately I did not find all this till too late and in the middle of my 2-hr manual output and I loose this HDCAM VTR in another hour or so. Oh well, this is a delivered DVD project and the tape is so someone else can repurpose for broadcast so no biggie. I also maintain QT’s so next time I have a HDCAM deck I’ll output with accurate timeline TC.

    So it was the software? Or did you just find that great deck feature and are using that? That is very cool to know.

    I assume it’s the old software version but I’m not able to prove it just yet as I’m working to beat the clock and forced to continue with manual output before I loose he HDCAM VTR.

    If time permits I’ll test the TC Jam Sync to SDI TC before the deck disappears.

    Michael – FWIW I have (amoungst other things) a MXO2 and a HDW1800 in one of my edit rooms and don’t have problems but as stated earlier you have gotta get those deck menu settings right. The other thing that I occasionally had trouble with is that the MXO2’s RS422 deck control wasn’t that great in older driver versions as it would not communicate to the deck as often as is should do.

    What would I do without the ‘UNDO’ button!!!!

    Am not sure, but I don’t think the MXO2 embeds sequence timecode in its HD-SDI signal output … does FCP even provide sequence timecode data to its I/O devices?

    FWIW (which is nothing) I routinely use embedded sequence timecode laying off to HDCAM from our Edius HDBX1000 systems … its a great feature when it works.
