    Hey Super Cows!

    Shot on Sony EX-3, 1080P24, 48KHz, 2 channels, 16.
When transferring the media thru FCP “Log and Capture” the audio is very very low comparing from viewed thru XDCAM Transfer Soft and its only a few clips from that card, the rest of it are fine.

I have tried by doing Import with the XDCAM transfer and its the same deal.

On the log and transfer I have changeed the audio setting from Matrix sterio to Plain stereo, no luck.
On the XDCAM Transfer checked and unchecked the audio channels from the General tab as well the “only import monitored audio channels” from the Import tab. On the exported QKtime audio is low as well.

On the XDCAM Transfer the Audio settings are:
    Format: AES-3
    48KHz
    Channles:2
    16Bit
    Monitor: 1/2

    Thanks! ! !

    Things to check

    Proper SDI-HDI cable
    Finalcut audio capture settings
Finally your camera settings…though the clips playout fine using clip browser.

What we need to know is has this happened before? Is this your first time logging and capturing? Whats equipment are you using?

Sounds like you may have some phase canceling issues … on the problem clip’s, try muting one of the channels and center panning the other.

    Thanks for the response Andy,
So how can I accomplish this before trans-coding the media?
Thru “Log and capture” the only audio options are Matrix and Plain stereo, on XDCAM transfer software?

Just for clarity, there is no transcoding taking place with either FCP’s Log and Transfer of EX footage or when using Sony’s XDCAM Transfer … in both case’s its a strict transfer of the captured clip’s audio/video data (the “essence”) and the only thing that happens is that that essence is placed into a quicktime container (or “wrapper”). That being the case, there is no way to manipulate the data during the transfer / rewrap process … its something you’d have to do after the fact I’m afraid.

Sorry for the explanation … its always nicer to give an answer, but sometimes there isn’t one to give

    Hey Andy,
You where right, panning left and right on the audio brought it back.
