Yes, that range select copy trick functioned as described in FCP4 but unfortunately I don’t think its worked that way since.

Much too late now I guess, but for those that don’t know, if you want to use Apple HDV files on a non-FCP Mac then you can buy the decode component you need from Calibrated Software … it is included in their XD Decode component.

Also for PC, there is their M.Key.100 USB dongle which adds and allows use of the Matrox codecs on systems without other Matrox video hardware.

Matrox M.Key/100 is a USB dongle with associated software that allows you to use all the Matrox Video for Windows (VFW) software codecs on a system that doesn’t have Matrox video hardware. With Matrox M.Key/100 connected to your computer’s USB port, all the Matrox VFW codecs are available on your system and behave as though you have Matrox video hardware, such as Matrox Axio or Matrox DSX, installed in your computer.
This means that you can render and play back Matrox .avi files with your VFW programs using any Matrox VFW codec, including those codecs that are available only to users that have Matrox video hardware. The following Matrox VFW codecs are available with Matrox M.Key/100:
• Matrox DV/DVCAM.
• Matrox DVCPRO.
• Matrox DVCPRO5O.
• Matrox DVCPRO HD.

Put your FCP Browser window into List View then scroll across till you see the Field Dominance column … select all the clip you want to change in one go then right click on one of the selection and change it to the desired value … all the selected clips will change accordingly

As I recall, only DV scene detection is built in, for other codecs there are 3rd party solutions such as that from https://scene-detector.com/ and https://videotoolshed.com/?page=products&pID=13

The app you’ve linked looks like rubbish Ben, as a professional video editor I’m surprised you give it any credence at all. If you did install and run it on a PC (or for best efficiency, on a Windows system running on your Mac, via Parallels etc) do you have any reason to believe this PC software will read Quicktime movie files captured on a Mac and/or produce a “sequence” that you can import to FCP? I would expect to encounter problems to be honest. If you need to produce some sort of results of this research you’ve been tasked with then Philip Hodgett’s / Assisted Editing came out with a couple of Mac based tool “First Cut” and “Finisher” for automated editing which at the very least add a certain artificial intelligence to the process, if also requiring a far greater adherence to detailed logging than most would find desirable… I’ve never personally heard of any editor or production house that actually uses this software but it may at least be something you can turn in to your bosses to show you tried.
