  • Range Selection tool – Copy Problems

So i have a tutorial and even went thru various forums trying to find the answer to this.
When i use the Range Selection tool to grab a portion of audio, then using shift/Option to drag it to copy it and add it to another track, it copies the entire track, not just the selection. I have tried various key configurations and it doesnt work. What am i doing wrong? I only want to copy this small specific piece from the audio track with the range selection tool…

    Thanks

I’m guessing you’re referring to this tutorial: https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/option_key_fcp_4_balis.html

Yes, that range select copy trick functioned as described in FCP4 but unfortunately I don’t think its worked that way since.

    Andy,
Thanks for responding. Actually the tutorial was from Ripple Training on their advanced series. I just downloaded it yesterday. It is supposed to be of FCP 7.

Interesting. Perhaps we’re doing it wrong … as noted, it certainly used to work as described in the tutorial I linked to but I found that it stopped working for me that way thereafter. I can’t speak for the steps you are following as I have not seen the tutorial you are referring to, but if its being demo’d as working on an FCP7 system then I guess it does work?

option dragging doesn’t work for me either in FCP 6.0.6 … but it does work if I use the copy/paste keyboard shortcuts. But that usually means also having to muck about with the track targeting as well.
