Yea, I noticed too. No eSATA, no USB3 (and no ExpressCard on the 13/15 so called “Pro” laptops)g … but hey, you can sorta flick scroll with the trackpad, that’ll keep the pro’s happy right? Maybe they’ll support that in FCP8 :-/

Seriously tho, it is a bit disappointing in light of some of these great USB3 based product announcements.

Yes your guys should find the XDCAM EX footage easy to wrk with directly in a matching ProRes timeline … if you decide you still want to transcode these clips anyway then please clarify your “transcode the XDCam EX to XDCam files” step as the need for that isn’t clear. The 5D footage you would certainly want to transcode as FCP is not at all happy editing with H264 footage. As to your editors who are “new to FCP and don’t like it”, well if this is a typical workflow then I can understand their reluctance … and again, if this is typical, you really might want to consider a more suitable tool for the job?

Nope, both applications are Quicktime native in essence but MPEG Streamclip has its own algorithms Rafa.

FCP’s built in crawl plugin will work if you don’t need the text to display be too long, otherwise you’ll run afoul of a built in 32k pixel (length) limit … Alex Gollner designed a great (and free) plugin to bypass this limit and more besides:

If you have Bootcamp / Parallels + Windows installed (or instalable) on your Mac then you can download and install the Edius trial ..you can use that to transcode to something a bit more useful to you. Or if its a manageable amount then you can send it to me and I’ll run it through the Edius here during some downtime for you if you like.

Chris mentioned the mystery plugin are from CHV Peter (https://www.chv-plugins.com/), and I’d doubt Cristoph does the FxFactory thing as he has his own competing product (QC Integration FX) … Jon Chappell’s Plugin Manager handles them all by the way, QC Integration plugins, FxFactory plugins, regular FxPlugs, FxScripts, Audio Unit plugins etc etc. Too cool. (Apologies for the adolescent gushing, am having an I-Love-FCS-Maintenance-Pack moment)

For FxPlug’s then you need to check in your /Library/Plug-ins/FxPlug folder (or if not found there then look in the same path but in your user folder)

For FxScripts then you need to look in /Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro System Support/Plugins or ~/Library/Preferences/Final Cut Pro User Data/Plugins

… failing that then you should check out Jon Chappell’s FCS Maintenance Pack which is an awesome set of tools that includes, amongst many great tools, his Plugin Manager which gives a drop dead simple interface for installing, uninstalling, enabling and disabling every kind of FCP effect plugin. And theres a free demo period, so you have nothing to lose.
