Unisntalling Unwanted Fx Packages
Posted by Chris Curran on April 1, 2010 at 9:27 amLast summer I downloaded set of fxplug-ins from CHV. They’re crap and I want rid. They show up on my FX pallets of course but I cannot for the life of me find them either in my “downloads”, FCP folders or anything. Their presence has really started to grate on me. Any ideas would be gratefully received.

April 1, 2010 at 10:02 amFor FxPlug’s then you need to check in your /Library/Plug-ins/FxPlug folder (or if not found there then look in the same path but in your user folder)
For FxScripts then you need to look in /Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro System Support/Plugins or ~/Library/Preferences/Final Cut Pro User Data/Plugins
… failing that then you should check out Jon Chappell’s FCS Maintenance Pack which is an awesome set of tools that includes, amongst many great tools, his Plugin Manager which gives a drop dead simple interface for installing, uninstalling, enabling and disabling every kind of FCP effect plugin. And theres a free demo period, so you have nothing to lose.

April 2, 2010 at 12:47 amIf you use plugins that are based on FxFactory, then use the FxFactory application to enable/disable the FxPacks you want.

April 2, 2010 at 7:49 amChris mentioned the mystery plugin are from CHV Peter (https://www.chv-plugins.com/), and I’d doubt Cristoph does the FxFactory thing as he has his own competing product (QC Integration FX) … Jon Chappell’s Plugin Manager handles them all by the way, QC Integration plugins, FxFactory plugins, regular FxPlugs, FxScripts, Audio Unit plugins etc etc. Too cool. (Apologies for the adolescent gushing, am having an I-Love-FCS-Maintenance-Pack moment)

April 3, 2010 at 3:58 amYeup, but you said ‘every type of plugin’ in your response.
I haven’t done any tests, but I guess the manual removal of FxFactory based plugins will be overwritten by FxFactory anyway, so using FXF would seem smarter. Also the maintenance pack won’t get rid of custom patches. This is becoming very important as the rather nasty GLTools (not used by any FxF plugin) is causing huge problems for FCP and other video apps.
