Don’t do it. Edius is an edit system only, has zero effective compositing capabilities. For editing it is absolutely fine, for compositing you’ll need/want to use After Effects.

It’s because you have specifically flagged the clip as having a “Speed” (adjustment), even though you have set that speed as 100% … instead, in the “Change Speed” dialog you should/could just click the “Remove Speed” button at lower left to remove that flag.

That’s a perfectly good alternative system Mark … as long as you are keeping backups and source projects on separate drives, and at least one or the other is separate from your media drive(s) then you have the situation covered pretty much as well as you can.

Actually, Apple’s “Uncompressed” codec is indeed a codec … in Quicktime, if you seriously want “no codec”, then you should set the compressor to “None”. (Jason: don’t set your compressor to None, nobody uses None).

The issue is/was one of 10 bit vs 8 bit processing vagaries. Many moons ago I updated the code to fix this (in the free letterbox plugin that I hosted on my own webpage) but for anyone, like Lot and co, working from the code as originally posted here, the extra lines needed are/were:

UnMultiply (matteBars, kBlack);
Dest *= matteBars;

… pop those 2 lines in just before the last line and all should be well.

So it sounds like they asked for delivery as “Uncompressed” but you sent them XDCAM HD … you could re-export using Apple’s Uncompressed codec and send them that, or as Russel and Jerry already suggested, maybe a good idea to double check with the client which codec it is that they want (or need).

Is there some intermediate board/device/method between something awfully expensive and Compressor that is “possible” to purchase that one could get or use for this?

You don’t actually have to buy an awfully expensive Teranex (or Alchemist or whatever) to get your video converted … as Walter alludes, you just need to send it to a facility that does have the right equipment ie you pay someone who has already made that bigger investment to convert your footage for you.

If you want to avoid even the cost of having someone else convert it for you then Compressor’s higher quality settings provide excellent results albeit at the cost of taking a long time to work … or if you have an aversion to Compressor perhaps you could have a look at the Standards Conversion plugin pack from Graeme Nattress, also highly regarded: https://www.nattress.com/Products/standardsconversion/standardsconversion.htm

As Eric notes, there are some excellent PC based software tools for handling the conversion, if that’s something you’re equipped for.

As far as I know there is no “cheap” yet high quality HD standards conversion / frame rate conversion hardware out there. Teranex make an affordable “Teranex Mini” but as far as standards conversions go, thats SD only. Blackmagic Design also recently released their super affrodable UpDownCross Mini Convertor but I believe that also handles standards conversions as SD only.
