Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy 100 Percent Speed

After modifying speed on a clip, the new percent speed is indicated in the timeline as “Clip A (50%).” This is, of course, very useful. I find, however, if I later need some of the clip at its original speed and use the find function (F) to put the clip in the Viewer and then the Modify Speed function (CMD J) to return it to 100%, the timeline, rather than simply showing the clip name, now shows it with “(100%)” after. This is technically correct as the clip has been reverted, but am I now working with some sort of modified clip?

This may seem as if I am over-sweating this: 100% speed is 100% speed whether it says it or not. But the reason I’m concerned and the reason I have time to post this now is I’ve just done this and then cut the, now once again, 100% speed clip into my timeline and the app is hanging up. I’m hoping it will eventually cut loose so here I am.

Further clues or possibly red herrings:

•Immediately after cutting the clip in, but before it froze, I resized the clip to fill the frame (4:3 clip in a 16:9 show).
•The Canvas, just before freezing, went pink. My inclination is to think the file is corrupt, but:

•I’ve been working with it for some time without trouble.
•It is the same DV 720 as is my show.

•The CPU Usage window in my Activity Monitor is showing very little activity.

Guess it’s time to force quit.

You are dealing with a modified clip Martin, but only in the sense that it\’s metadata has been altered. When you changed the speed to 50% FCP wrote that to it\’s database, where before there was only a blank space. Once that space has an entry FCP can modify that entry, but can\’t delete it. So, instead of a blank, which is equal to 100%, FCP must write 100%. Now you know…

    Hey Martin

It’s because you have specifically flagged the clip as having a “Speed” (adjustment), even though you have set that speed as 100% … instead, in the “Change Speed” dialog you should/could just click the “Remove Speed” button at lower left to remove that flag.

    Hope it helps
