XDCAM HD conversion for client to see
Posted by Jason Blalock on January 8, 2011 at 10:49 amMy client asked for “1920 x 1080 uncompressed” delivery of the show I’ve edited, so I exported “using sequence settings,” but they just wrote to say they can’t see the video. Shoulda seen that coming…
I shot Sony XDCAM HD 1080 24p, and imported using that codec. Is there a more universal HD codec that people without Final Cut and the Sony plug-ins can see? Maybe people using Windows?
I can make it SD as well, but HD is preferred.
Thanks

January 8, 2011 at 4:25 pmI think the question that needs to be answered is what do they want to use this for? Just viewing? or?
If they just want to look at it, maybe just an mp4 will do the trick… Just make it full sized.

January 8, 2011 at 9:06 pmIf they have the latest QuickTime loaded, then prores will work. Prores Proxy is quite small and user friendly. You could also use h264, but as Jerry says, it really depends on how they’re going to use it.

January 9, 2011 at 8:03 am[Jason Blalock] “My client asked for “1920 x 1080 uncompressed” delivery “
[Jason Blalock] “I shot Sony XDCAM HD 1080 24p, and imported using that codec …”
[Jason Blalock] “…I exported “using sequence settings””So it sounds like they asked for delivery as “Uncompressed” but you sent them XDCAM HD … you could re-export using Apple’s Uncompressed codec and send them that, or as Russel and Jerry already suggested, maybe a good idea to double check with the client which codec it is that they want (or need).

January 9, 2011 at 11:10 pm[Andy Mees] ” you could re-export using Apple’s Uncompressed codec”
that always brings a smile to face when I read that the words “uncompressed codec” because ‘uncompressed’ means “no codec”.
But what Andy says is correct – you supplied a compressed format when they asked for uncompressed. Unfortunately, be prepared for a much larger file size!

Actually, Apple’s “Uncompressed” codec is indeed a codec … in Quicktime, if you seriously want “no codec”, then you should set the compressor to “None”. (Jason: don’t set your compressor to None, nobody uses None).
