A journaling file system is a file system that logs changes to a journal (usually a circular log in a specially-allocated area) before actually writing them to the main file system … so, for example, if there was a power outage during a write operation, on reboot, the system needs only check that the main filesystem and journal are in sync (and if they’re not it can resync by applying the changes as per the journal)

you can use the free utilities appl called Sebsky Tools to convert your BWF’s to QT files

check your other thread … you sound like you’ve mixed up your codecs
export to AvidDV QT codec works fine with FCP, but their freely released Meridian codecs are broken in QT7 … you will need a recent release of Adrenaline or Xpress for QT7 compatible Meridian codecs

it sound like you got the wrong codec!
its not the avid “meridian” codec you want, its the avid dv codec.

go to this website:

register for, and then download the Avid FreeDV application for Mac OSX

when you get it, you can unstuff it, then right click the installer and choose “Show Package Contents”
open the “Contents” folder then double click the “Archive.pax.gz” file
the file will unarchive itself twice; first to a file called “Archive.pax” and then to a folder called “Archive”
inside that folder you should see the folder structure Library > Quicktime (amongst others, of course)
and in the Quicktime folder you’ll see the codec called AvidAVdvCodec.component
take that one and drop it into your computers /Library/Quicktime/ directory

then try again with your export… now you see Avid DV as an option.

in this FreeDV release (v1.6.1) the Avid Meridian Compressed codec ( AvidAVDJCodec.component ) and Uncompressed codec ( AvidAVUICodec.component ) do not work with Apple’s Quicktime 7

they do have QT7 compatible codecs but these have not been freely released and are available only as a part of the latest Adrenaline and Xpress releases

Surely everyone who needs the best Mac hardware they can afford as of “right now”

Most all of us are well aware that the shelf life of highend workstation computer equipment is getting shorter and shorter. The faster the end user machines get, the more computations the software developers can demand of their apps, or otherwise rely on only the most ‘modern’ components … meaning we all need to upgrade our hardware with ever increasing frequency if we want to offer the latest and greatest facilities to our clients.

As it is over here in network tv land Hong Kong, we only just bought a pile of Dual 2.5’s, or so it seems, just a year ago … then just a few short months back we bought a pile more, though by then we were up to Dual 2.7’s … and right now we’re waiting on some Quad’s …. yet, before you know it they may all be antiques!!

I guess the bottom line is we need the best we can get as of “right now” … but I sure as sh!t hope they don’t drop support for the PPC too soon 😉

you are trying to shut the gate AFTER the horse has bolted.
what you should have done is apply the effiect to the angle before youe edited with it … now you are limited to applying it clip instance by clip instance.

now you are limited applying the effect to one instance of the angle, in the timeline, copying that clip, then multiple selecting all other instances of that angle in the timeline and using “Paste attributes” to copy the filter to all those other instances

a learning experience!

hopefully others will chime in with a quicker / more convenient way to help you

the latest (QT7 compatible) version of the Avid meridian codecs are only currently available with Avid’s Adrenaline 1.8.x or, for Xpress users, 4.8.x

however, if you have this software I can confirm that these latest versions of the Meridian codecs (9.4.3 and 9.4.5) do indeed work with QT7 … unfortunately the meridian codecs contained in the latest version of Avid’s freely available FreeDV do not yet work with QT7
