these are 2 different issues

with the current release of FCP the output option will certainly be grayed out as there is no live output over firewire whilst working with HDV. (note: FCP 6 adds a new live SD DV downconversion over firewire when working in HDV timelines)

the capture proble that you first posted about sounds almost exactly like the same problem that many have had when they have incorrectly set their camera’s outpiut settings to match the capture settings … ie if your camera is set to downconvert to DV, but you have chosen an HDV easy setup, then FCP will not see the incoming video

you may want to check that you have “Mirror on desktop” enabled in your A/V Devices setiings (Final Cut Pro > Audio/Video Settings… >> A/V Devices tab)

there is no direct way in FCP to remove a single specific filter from multile clips that also have other filters applied.

what you can do is export your sequnece as an XML file
open the XML file in a text editor and search the text of it for the red border filter
copy the full text of the filter from [effect] to [/effect]
open the text editors Find and Replace dialog
paste the copied text into the Find field, and leave the Replace field blank
press the Find and Replace All button
Save the result and then reopen the XML in FCP

the new sequence generated will be as before biut minus any instance of the removed effect.

… is that faster than manually removing each instance in the timeline? depends how many you’ve removed already probably

if you didn’t nest before applying the filter to the whole timeline then you will need to open each clip independently and remove the filter …

unless you have no other filters applied, in which case you can select all, then choose Edit > Remove Attributes… and in the following window uncheck all boxes except “Filters” and click OK (you might want to make a duplicate of your timeline before such a drastic action tho)

no need to recapture … you need to change the sequence to Upper Field dominance and re-render … try it on a small test section first to verify that the results are good, then set it to render the whole shebang

the FCP XML Export will create an XML with a specific structure used by FCP for describing the sequence … unless AE now understands that structure then yes, you need a third party solution such as Automatic Duck to translate your sequence data into a format that AE can understand

i just took a look back through the late breaking new file in v5 and yes, there was a problem with incorect field order settings with IMX presets, that was fixed in the v5.0.2 update, and similatly with Uncompressed 8/10 bit PAL presets, that was fixed in the 5.0.3 update

In both cases you had to manually replace the preset files in order to make the corrected cversions available to FCP

I just double checked the Easy Setup presets I have for Uncompressed 8-bit and it all says Upper …. I’m pretty sure they’ve always been OK in this regard, though there was an issue early on, with 5.0 I think, where there were presets that were incorrect and one had to manually replace the presets file
