you could export an xml of the sequence and use a simple text editor to find and replace the information

1) select the sequence in the browser and choose File > Export > XML
2) create a dummy edit with a single instance of one of the clips as is, export that new sequence as an XML file as before
3) change the dominance as needed on the clip in that new sequence and then export it as an XML file again
4) compare the two files and spot the difference
5) now open the full sequence XML n a text editor and use the find and replace all function to change all the instances in one go as per the noted difference

Calibrated Software have been churning out excellent products (including MXF Import) to enable MXF based workflows and expanded codec support in and between FCP and other NLE’s for some time now. Last year we bought their XD Decode for Windows product for use on our Carbon Coder PC and its been a godsend … it does exactly what it says on the box, and I’ve no reason to believe any of their other products are any less reliable. Greg Booth, the developer keeps an eye on the boards here and I’m sure he’ll answer any questions you have on this latest update to his MXF Import product.

FWIW … MXF4Mac, tried and tested too. Awesome. Developed by Bjoern Adamski who also supports his product right here on the COW.

When you’re in list view you need to need to right click (or ctrl click) on one of the Browser window’s column headings to the right of the Name column (in the default browser list view the first column says Duration) … you should see a long drop down menu appear and in amongst the options will be one called “Show Thumbnail”. Choose that and a new Thumbnail column will be inserted to the left of the clicked heading and that will now display the thumbnails directly in the list view.

Well if they don’t have the XDCAM recording hardware themselves then you could take your deck over and have them layoff to XDCAM directly in the same way as they already lay off to HDCAM tape … or as proposed, just dub from an HDCAM master. Same same but different really.

If you prefer, you could edit in a native timeline and then crop as needed in Compressor on export … you could create a custom guide overlay to show/mask what will be cropped so you can easily rotate and reframe the shots as needed without unnecessary scaling. You could create the guide overlay for yourself in Photoshop or similar, or just use a mask shape on a slug track, or there is also Digital Heaven’s free DH_Guides filter https://www.digital-heaven.co.uk/freeware or my own guides filter at https://web.me.com/andymees

Few questions James.
Am assuming you mean delivery on XDCAM optical disc, but what flavour on that disc? SD (IMX30/40/50, DVCAM) or HD.
How do you currently produce your captioned masters? And is there any reason our can’t produce these XDCAM master the same way?

Exactly. You can manage your disc names inside the XDCAM Transfer app … preferably before you press the Import button to bring in the high-res media.
