I think he means make back up images of the FCP Install DIscs you have to send in to Apple to get the 5.1 upgrade. (this is purely a safety issue so you can re-install if Apple doesn’t get your upgrade discs back to you in time.) Apple only does the upgrade to 5.1 via mail…..slow media mail, no fedex or ups for tracking. I don’t think the new FCP studios sold in the stores have 5.1 Universali them? Also, don’t ship in your sound loops or Live type data DVD’s. They are not needed. You only need to ship back the install discs.

Been using the Maxtor 300 Gig 16MB cache drives for over a year and a half in a burly box raid. Not one hic up……knock on wood 🙂

Why use compressor when you can use After Effects to render out the Motion JPEG 100 format. You could export your self contained or not QT, load up After Effects after you purhcase and install nucleo (https://www.gridironsoftware.com/Nucleo/) and watch AE crunch it faster then compressor ever could.

Check out the Apple forums regarding the Nitro card. Quite a few users have reported major problems. First out of the gate does not mean it was actually tested properly…….buyer beware. Might need to hold out a little longer for the other manufacturers to bring their cards out.

Maybe one of these Hubs might accomplish what you want. I don’t think the ports can all be active at the same time to capture from each computer….not sure though.

I’m doing this right now on a 1 hour documentary. The editor out of state sent the project file, video, audio, graphics etc. on Firewire drives. I did have to reconnect most of the media as it pointed to his raid which is named differently then mine. I was able to open up his Kona base project just fine. The render files were not there, so I had to re-render all the layers of audio, but it played back fine right after the full render.

Have you repaired permissions on your main system drive?
If you have not and don’t know how:
go to Utilities, look for the drive Icon with the stethoscope, select your sytem drive, then repair permissions. Reboot.If you already knew how, just trying to cover all bases.
